So what if this person ISN’T faking it and that you, being in fine health and live allergy-free, have no idea what it’s like to live with daily sensitivities or pain? And what IF… you just made yourself look like a douchebag?
Are you saying all environmental illness-ridden people are bullshitters? Is that what you’re saying? or just this particular person? I’m confused.
Does the lack of comments from the usual suspects mean somebody we know and love has an environmental illness, by any chance?
I think this could be a valid bitch if such a poor attitude was not portrayed. I think the bither is choked about having to spend a little extra money on something he believes is being abused. I agree that it is much easier to fake an environmental illness than something that has outward signs of sickness. If a person finds the right doctor, does a little research online for symptoms, and complains enough, a diagnosis will be made to anyone. I’m not saying that there are not people who suffer, but I am saying that environmental illness has no diagnosis, just a series of tests eliminating other diagnosable diseases, thus leaving you with an allergy or fibromyalgia diagnosis. This makes it hard to prove or disprove, thus making the ability to abuse quite easy. If you don’t think there are people out there abusing this, then I think you need to give your head a shake. (the last sentence is not directed to any particular person)

Would it not be not more direct to say this to the person’s face? If this person needs to be in such a controlled environment, perhaps he/she should not have housemates.

I work with a lady and they claim to have allergies and I believe they do. What pisses me off is the fact that I can’t wear scented ANYTHING but she can go outside and smoke her cigarettes and put thousands of other chemicals in their body but I am left having to smell her stink. But god forbid I wear a scented cream. GAWD
I wouldn’t be switching to unscented/scent-free anytime soon then Beener ;D not until she and everyone else at the workplace quits smoking. Or just tell her that you’re allergic to smoke.
