Why oh why do parents of young children insist on bringing them with them to adult type functions? Yet again I had to endure a parent constantly telling her child to behave themselves while the play was on. Please leave the little ones at home so others can enjoy a ‘child-free’ event. Oh and to the other parent with her child what part of turn your cell phone off didn’t you understand? —Unhappy at the Theatre

  1. “Child-free zones” should be mandatory, especially in theaters and airplane. No one wants another person’s spawn crawling around their feet. OP, next time flick condoms at the mother.

  2. Hol-Ly Shit Ivan, did anyone else read the article Ivan posted? I hope it’s a joke.

  3. And yes parents need to realize that NOT EVERYONE LIKES KIDS!!! Still fewer of us like your particular kids. If you can afford to go to the theatre you can afford a baby sitter.

  4. >: ) It’s from The Onion, Tommy, so yeah, it’s satire but it cuts pretty damned close to the truth, no?

  5. o.p., haven’t you noticed that by now, some people have no fucking sense in their heads. these are the same idiots, that would take them to a movie, and complain that their kids heard curse words. buncha fucking idiots.

  6. I wish someone flicked a few condoms at YOUR mother back when it could have made a difference, Sebastian, since she so obviously failed at motherhood. Hear are a few words for you to learn, since mommy-dearest seems to have forgotten to introduce you to:
    “empathy”
    “humility”

  7. … This post made me want movie popcorn! To the movies Donk goes ce soir.

    Thanks OP

  8. Thank you Z. Also there’s lots of assholes that don’t belong on airplanes and theatres…but they let them in.
If it was a child free event then how did the kid get in OP?

  9. I don’t think it was technically a “child-free” event, RC. I think OP was just trying to say that live theatre isn’t exactly the best place to take some kids.

  10. I’d take a few kids at the theatre any day over old ladies, their deafness and their bonbons at the symphony. CDs for me until there’s an upper age limit.

  11. lol I was going to say Ivan.. wasn’t familiar with that particular site, looks like fun. I’ll continue to frequent it.

  12. We’ve got 4 of their collections sitting on the toilet tank – very entertaining reading when you’re taking your morning constitutional.

  13. I’ll take my daughter to SOME live theater shows. But my daughter also does a super good job at staying quiet and is super absorbed by the show.

I also realize that by taking her to the few live theater shows that I have, that it is a risk, because if she does start talking and making noise I leave. Hence, I will also sit close to a door, easier for ducking out.

Not every kid is spoiled rotten, mind you a lot are, but sometimes kids can handle outings like this.

  14. It’s a conflict of interest: spoiled, coddled kids versus spoiled, coddled adults. I tend to have more sympathy for the kids because they dont have the maturity to keep their ME ME ME instincts in check like adults are supposed to. Spoiled kids are unlikeable but it’s usually the spoiled adults who are quickest to point that out!
