Ok…so looking to buy a house and we gotta have a garage (it’s a guy thing apparently). I sort on MLS/viewpoint with ‘garage’ checked then scroll through the results. Do I see a ‘garage’? Yes…only…there’s no way to drive a car into it….unless you count driving over your back lawn and creating your own driveway! Oh….I see…they call it a ‘detached garage’….to me it’s only a GARAGE if there is a paved driveway leading up to it; if it’s in the back corner of the back yard then it’s just a fawking shed!!! —Soon to be homeowner with a shed..oops! I mean garage

Enjoy your shed, Bubbles!
An excellent post in which the bitcher lays down unambiguous criteria for what constitutes a garage as opposed to a shed. Quite rightly, in my view, she maintains that words have meaning and the meanings of “garage” and “shed” are not to be confounded. The one is quite distinct from the other, both semantically and linguistically. Contrary to popular belief in some quarters, words can no more mean just what one happens to want them to mean in the same way that extra-mental reality is not simply a mindless projection of one’s whims. Well done. I say, well done
OB, didn’t you VIEW the house before you bought it? That’s typically what people do when making a big purchase… like say, a house! Duh. You must have more money than brains!
No, OB saw that the shed was not a garage and – putting any disappointment in frustration aside, only to post a bitch about is here – bought the house with the shed anyway. He didn’t bother to look at the other hundreds of other listings produced in the sort, just this one.
Its not just a guy thing apparently it seems sometimes a woman (or should I say Gal?) likes to have a garage … the wife asked me last night if there was rooming my garage so she could fit her car in there for this storm .
Which I immediately went up and made for her, now the car & the truck are all cozy out there . Wouldn’t want her baby out there in the high winds & hail ~;p
ha! way to extrapolate guys. op hasn’t bought the damn thing. he/she is cruising through mls and trying to find houses of interest with garages, but when searching on ‘with garage’ gets a bunch of offerings that, when images present, show the ‘garage’ is actually only a shed type structure.
my pet peeve with mls/viewpoint is when I search ‘on waterfront’ and get cheater places where the waterfront is a strip of dirt across the fucking road from the house. that is NOT waterfront to me. I want to walk out my door and into the drink without crossing a bloody road.
I don’t understand the coy presentations. do realtors actually think you won’t notice when you click on images (much less when/if you do an on site viewing?)
putting lipstick on a pig – wonderful expression
Gooddog Molly there are problems with water frontage …or so i find.
1- you gotta keep a strip mowed & a safe access into the River (or lake etc )
2- Then you’ll end up with some type of water craft , (& I don’t exactly understand how or why …but they breed until you end up with a big dent in your wallet/bank account & a boat, multiple kayaks, air filled boats, tubes ,rafts etc !)
Then there’s water moccasins , underwater/water proof camera’s. & life jackets, let us not forget Transport Canada’s rules on watercraft & life jackets !
SO its not all great ….
Until yer down there on a hot summers day with family & friends having an AWESOME time together ~;D
lol more, yeah, a boat is a hole in the water into which one pours money
I want saltwater that doesn’t freeze, so not at the head of a bay. has to be open water. no lakes or rivers. and yes, its because I base my house buying on the needs of my dogs. (and my not wanting to go into the water again to haul one out that went through the ice. getting too old for that)
love google street/satellite views for seeing what is beyond the carefully cropped realtors pics. I found one nice place online – except for the mink farm down the road.

Coast Readers… Attack! Someone wants to live in something that isn’t shared accommodation / divvy rental unit. Shame on them for being successful and purchasing a home.
Awwww… but Meaty’s dead, remember?! Dead. Even ghost-busted. But his spirit lives on, in all of us! To Meaty! http://netherlandsbynumbers.com/2013/10/23/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-zwarte-piet/
Hahahahahaha Son of Crispy, now I want a shed and not just one….but two!!! That was funny! And Gooddog Molly is right, haven’t bought anything yet just tired of how bad and unprofessional viewpoint/MLS is….I mean, there are spelling errors under the pictures or worse, upside down pictures posted! It’s almost as bad as kijiji….and don’t get me going on buying a ‘coach’ for my living room….I’ll save that for another rant!
if you want two sheds I want two shrubberies!!!

Garage/ Shed = man cave, but also doubles as dog house when wifey is upset.
my old guy neighbour spends all his time in the dog house errr garage. his wife told me its the reason he is still alive.
