I live in Nova Scotia, and I like to travel and be a tourist in my beautiful home province. But I don’t own a car. So when I travel to other communities in the province, I have to take a bus… And holy hell, I fucking HATE the bus!!

  1. I kind of agree with TTFN…if you’re willing to take the risk of being picked up by creepy and/or drunk people, I’d say hitch it. I’ve done plenty and the vast majority of rides are nice, normal people. Sure it can be boring waiting for a ride, and awkward being with a stranger, but sometimes you can meet some really cool people who might even buy you food or coffee and drive you further than they were going.
Sometimes if I can afford it, I just suck it up and rent a car; it’s pretty pricey compared to the bus, but you then have the freedom of movement.

  2. Thank Heavens you didn’t take the greyhound out west and sit next to the lopper, I’ll have a ticket to Antigonish please and please take a little off the top and sides….

  3. Is this a cry for a light rail system? Good idea! Metro’s all maxed out on ridership so why not redirect some of those funds into a system that would see Metro’s full capacity operation relieved even as the population increases.

  4. Take the bus for fuck sakes. Its not for everybody, but when there are options available, people don’t really have a right to complain about their stupid issues.

Hitch, bus or find something relevant to bitch about.

  5. I wouldn’t hitchhike if my life depended on it, seeing I’m supposedly a young attractive female. OP, I don’t have a car either, and it bugs the demons out of me sometimes. If you want to travel locally, get a road bike ~ it will do you and your muscles absolute wonders, trust me. Not only do you get a great workout, you get to see the lovely Nova Scotia scenery along the route with the breeze blowing through your hair and nothing ahead of you except the road. Go for it! (you won’t be sorry).

  6. If they’re from the Nish, they’re harmless.
I’ve lived there in the past. The county
folk there used to give people a lift to town
if they see someone thumbing a ride.
They’d drop you off at the corner of
Hawthorne and Main, and say what time
they’re going home, and to meet them
there if you want a ride.
