I’m fucking cranky, this goddamn free market bullshit is clearly not working. When you have CEO’s making millions and then asking for fucking bailouts from the taxpayers, something is seriously fucked up here. Insurance companies raping people on premiums because the government makes insurance manditory. Utility “boards” that are solely looking out for the interests of big business and shareholders, and continually putting the shaft to the people. Governments that have lost sight of the reason that they’re elected. Isn’t the mantra “government by the people, for the people”? It’s not happening. Fuck, $40 for a 24 for christ sake! Same beer in Maine, $12.

I’m sure it looks good on Bay Street, but does anyone else see the problem with shipping raw resources south of the border only to have them sold back to us at an exorbant rate? We’re shipping raw logs to the states for processing into lumber, while we’re shutting down saw mills here. They want to send oil to the US for processing, won’t fucking do it here. Selling the whole fucking country to foreign investors, while our own people are satisfied with low wage, no future work. This country needs a huge wake up call, it’s fucking pathetic the way we just do nothing while the government fucks us out of our future, energy security, etc. How does the gov’t not see this shit? —Fuck

  1. Awww , not so fun when the shoe is on the other foot. Canada is feeling the burn now, for supporting Isreal and the usa over the past 100 yrs. Now china, Russia, and their allies are simply pushing us out of the running. At the same time we pay america huge lump sums in free resources for their protection not to mention the free education we give half the world while forcing our citizens to pay ten times as much for the same piece of paper. Do not blame the free market, blame your fucking parrents for not doing anything. I’ve said it many times before. I will be your leader, all ya gotta do is ask. But when i am ,your welfare and child tax credit checks will end immediatley. If you want a wake up call ,I’ll give ya one, you are the problem, im the solution, do you really want change for the better? I believe you just want more for you, so as usual the same will continue…..

  2. You harp on and on about how the government is (in your mind) screwing us over, yet at the end you ask “How does the gov’t not see this shit?”. I think you just answered your own question there, bud.

  3. OP has a point. I started watching “The Corporation” this weekend, a wonderful Canadian documentary that takes the concept that a corporation = personhood and runs with it. It compares corporations with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) symptoms of abnormal behavior and concludes that if the corporation is a person, it is a sociopathic one.

And that whole pipeline idea is just a crock of shit. Why a pipeline all the way to Texas, ffs? why not in Michigan, or even better why not Canada? Did you know that the #1 export in the US is refined petroleum products? Thank you Dick Cheney and big oil.

  4. Wow what a rant, sure things are not all hats and horns but I’d rather myself, my wife and kids be here then dying in some wind swept desert in Africa or wondering if I can go to the stores or a bank without getting blown up. Man it can always be worse

  5. It’s not, “Why does the government not see this shit?”

I’d say those in gov’t that don’t see what’s up are a small minority.

Those that have power (and I mean real power) definitely see it and don’t give a flying fuck since they benefit directly from it. Then there are those in gov’t that do see it but can’t/won’t do anything about it.

It’s more, “why do the people not see this shit?”
Again, some do, many more don’t, and some could care less if it were right in front of their noses.

I have no sympathy for the latter.

  6. Well OP do your part and ensure you don’t take out any loans you can’t pay off in a timely manner.

The american economy is in terrible shape because of loan defaulters. It’s why private banks are going belly up.. not the only reason but a huge one. Americans don’t want to hear this because they want a big bad Scrooge to blame. But the reality is that fiscal responsibility is not just the responsibility of big business (one of which made the computer you’re typing on btw)

  7. I’m not disagreeing with everything you said. Merely rolling my eyes at the fact that you have only addressed part of the problem. As is usual these days..

  8. We don’t have anything even remotely close to a free market here OB, don’t worry…

The price of beer here has more to do with the fact MADD and the government of Canada, along with the NSLC, engaged in collusionary business practices, MADD lobbying on top of that for a set minimum alcohol price… they got it. We pay for it.

  9. ***The american economy is in terrible shape because of loan defaulters***

Well, no, that is not correct. IK. The American economy is in terrible shape because of the dismantling of business and security regulations, NAFTA, predatory lending practices and war.

  10. of course it doesn’t work.that’s why we’re all going to communism next year. that is after the left over people from the great change over get together. and yes, the change over is coming in may. when the world as you know it ends, and the new enlightened miienium starts. you will have a 1,000 years of being communist to get any shit changed and be counted upon to serve your country in the new military state that canada will become.

  11. Yeah and what do you think we should do about it? Set up tents in Halifax to protest? Oh wait they already tried that and it didn’t work.

  12. It’s a pathetic scenario, that’s for sure. Let’s all stand up and applaud past policy makers for there hard work and dedication to corporate douchebaggery. Enjoy your golden pension packages you voted for yourselves, you deserve them.

  13. The pipeline project has been postponed Xeno so there’s some good news there.
Our industry has been historically dependent on a cheap source of energy namely oil, it isn’t so cheap anymore. Add to that loan defaults, deregulation, corporate bailouts, and of course that war that Dubya said was over back in March 2002 and you have the perfect ingredients for an economic cluster fuck.
