What does it take to get some cross-walk lights up on Dutch Village Road??? Tonight, I unfortunately witnessed the aftermath of an individual who had been hit by a car – this was at the exact cross-walk I use twice a day, every single day. Who knows – had I left work a few minutes earlier it could have been ME lying on the road! The first time I drove through Dutch Village Road, it was in AFTER I drove through the cross-walk that I even realized there was one! Please somebody who deals with road signage WAKE-UP and get some LIGHTS UP! —Waiting for the Neck Brace…

“Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve” = negativity
“Wasn’t” is the positive word you are looking for. Dwelling on possibilities that just did not occur is a waste of time, makes people look silly and negates the point they were trying to make.
I so saw it too!!! It was fucking terrible. And we are in Fairview and how dark it is there in that area. They need to light it up better and also… no YELLOW flashing lights. WTF is yellow? SLOW DOWN! not STOP! There is flashing yellow light everywhere. Nobody pays attention to yellow!
Crossing Dutch Village Rd. at the base of Rosedale Ave has been a problem for decades…Years ago the city put up a crossing button for pedestrians but was removed(it was not there as of a few months ago).
If the folks in Fairview are lucky HRM will provide an ‘orange traffic flag’ at that crosswalk to use while crossing. Just like they did for they good citizens who use a crosswalk on Waverley Rd.
Is the view fair in fairview? NO. Ya take your chances in that area whether you are walking/biking/shitting/breathing or just passing through to … to …. to …. wow, am at a total loss as to where you would be to.
People are in too much of a hurry to get through that neighbourhood and get to Clayton Park and BLIP beyond that. I suggest you take your suggestion to your local political representation.
Reformed driver – avid walker here. I’ve noticed that most (if not all) vehicle/pedestrian accidents are due to inattention. A distracted driver, a pedestrian with headphones on/texting/reading a book for christ’s sake.
You’ve read it ad nauseum before but it begs repeating. To survive here’s what I’ve learned (and rocket science it is not):
1) Keep your head up (drivers/pedestrians/cyclists)
2) Never assume they see you
3) At a crosswalk, do not shamble out thinking the hand of god/whatever will protect you. It/(s)he won’t. Wait until everyone stops.
4) Drivers – stop driving like the hounds of hell are nipping at your heels. Saving 30 seconds by driving like you stole the car is ridiculous.
5) I ramble a lot.
I hope this individual makes a complete recovery.
Ah, so that’s what all the hubub was about.
As someone who constantly has to cross dutch village rd, it’s a death trap.
People don’t seem to realize that every intersection is a crosswalk whether marked or otherwise…
