The prices charged by the local phone/internet/cable supplier are absolutely outrageous. Compared with US suppliers and some others the cost is a joke and the customer service is pathetic — they can’t even explain how their ‘packages’ break-down cost wise. Get it for this price for three months and then take out a mortgage if you want to continue service. They make me sick. Canada needs more competition to bring these money-grabbers into line. —Sick of Rip-Offs

  1. it’s only gonna get worse o.p., when the bus strike is over, prices will rise on just about everything, to make up difference, just watch and see.

  2. I used to be a flight attendant, going to sun destinations. Dominicans all have BB’s with unlimited data for next to nothing. Just saying.

  3. Also, this isn’t specific to Halifax. According to a study that I’m too lazy to look up at the moment, Canadians pay some of the highest monthly rates for internet when compared to the amount of bandwidth we get.

  4. you were a flight attendant, fs? that’s a rough gig, i’ve seen some really bad behaviour on planes and it’s not like you can get off at 35,000 ft…yes, i realize how that sounds, leave it alone

  5. I go with the free packages, but only until they run out then switch to the other company for their offer. Keep playing them against each other… Although I wonder how great a deal those freebies really are… I was offered a year free phone with purchase of internet, but it still cost me about 100 bucks/month somehow.

  6. The only thing I give for internet access is that they still offer non capped internet for their lower tier services. Other than that, Canadian providers gouge like a mofo for services. It all stemmed from the Canadian dollar being 0.64 US twelve years ago. The prices NEVER adjusted for the strong dollar. NEVER. And THAT is criminal.

  7. I get free cable (up to channel 60-something, the one with the french porn at night) because Eastlink is stupid 🙂

  8. mel, they may be… they actually hooked ours up for a free month and then never took it away for a year following…. (THANKS!)
though I really found that I never even utilized it….
I watched it twice… or thrice max.
And I still don’t miss it…. nor do I ANY of the commercials.

  9. Tell me about it. I just went into my cable provider yesterday to ask them why my bill has increased by $2 a month for the past 6 months. Needless to say they didn’t have an answer. It’s gone from about 120/month when I first got it, to 175/month now, and I havn’t changed a single thing.

I’d say it’s time to switch but is anyone really better than anyone else?

  10. Aliant fucked up and didn’t send my mobile $$$ over to bell mobility and they suspended my service because I hadn’t paid. Aliant was supposed to pay for me because I got a discount by bundling my services….

After I spent three weeks trying to straighten that crap out, bell mobility decides this month to slap on a $5 late fee on my cell service because my payment was ‘late’… IT WAS ONLY LATE BECAUSE ALIANT NEVER SENT THE MONEY OVER.

So now I have to spend another five hours calling the snotty assholes at accounts receivable getting them to fuck off with the late fee.
