I am wondering how many other woman have been destroyed by the Family Courts of NS? How many dead beats have gotten away with having their passports returned while they travelled to Costa Rica leaving the wives with no support to feed their children while their family business cooks the books by reducing the husbands pay? —Bankrupt!

  1. Yup. Our judge even told the children they should have a relationship with the dead beat dad even though he hadn’t shown up for 90% of his parental visits. Still owes us over $15000.

  2. I believe ,Ont. Is one of the provinces that Garnish any pay or Government money’s that are given to the dead beat dad ,regardless of where you live .Eventually he will have to pay !All province s should follow this rule !

  3. And how many women keep their children away from loving dads who pay their support? And you know what happens to women who do this? Nothing.

  4. As a child (now an adult) of parents who also decided to turn their marriage into a side show circus and divorce using me as a pawn and leaving me emotionally screwed and unable to have a normal relationship of my own well into my adult years…may I just say, congratulations! It seems some things never change.

I have no sympathy for you. If you went to the courts and decided to get the “last word” by taking custody of your children away from your husband, he shouldn’t have to pay a red cent. I bet your kids wouldn’t want anything to do with him anyway…right? Right.

If you two decided to have a gaggle of kids without a commitment to tough it until those kids were grown and out of the house, that’s your problem. You wanna put your own needs ahead of the needs of your children and split half way through their development? That’s your business…but if you decide to take full custody and force that through the courts who are foolishly likely to grant that custody to the woman JUST BECAUSE…then you pay the godamn bill. Your husband is done with you, he’s not prepared to deal with you, and he’s not prepared to hand over vast quantities of money to you for extended periods of time and he’s gonna do whatever he can to get away with it. And frankly if he doesn’t have access to his children (and I’m fairly certain reading between the lines here that that’s the case), he SHOULDN’T pay.

You have yourself a nice day.

  5. It’s not a contest, men against women; just another reflection of how our system is fucked, really, if you ask me.

  6. This is a very unfortunate situation that plays out every day. I know a number of women that were/are battling to get exes to pay a fair child support. It’s tough enough within the province where we have maintenance enforcement but if the dude move out of province or the country it gets even more difficult.

Years ago an acquaintance was wondering whether she should continue her education because she planned on getting married and being a stay at home mom. I suggested that she should get a good education and a few years work experience before having kids. My argument was that anything could happen to her husband – accidental death, illness, divorce, abandonment – so she needed to be able to support herself and her kids if worse came to worse. It’s harsh but it is the reality.

  7. Try_the_Truth – your post confirms what I’ve believed for years – the devastating effect an acrimonious divorce has on the children and the selfishness that resonates from one or both parents. I’ve seen similar situations over the decades where children were held hostage by the rage & bile that flowed between ex-partners. Those were the kids who came to my house with my kid because they didn’t feel welcome in their own home with mom & new partner or dad & the new wife. My heart broke for those kids.

  8. Well my grown kids won’t have anything to do with their mother because of the stunts she pulled. So non-custodial parents, keep your heads up high and sooner, rather than later, your kids will realize what’s going on.

And BTW their are remedies for those who do not pay support. If they have various licences (driver’s, pilot, hunting, or whatever) they will not be renewed. If they work, their wages can be garnished. There are a lot more remedies for a non-paying parent than there is for a parent who refuses visitation.
