No matter what time of year or what store, for some reason luggage always seems to be 50-75% off. I noticed the same deal in two other Provinces recently. WTF? Why is it always luggage? This has been going on for so long why don’t they just drop their prices ffs.
—markup much assholes?

Its like Oriental Rug Stores.
“Going out of business in the same location for 20 years”
because then you wouldn’t be getting as “deal” when you have to scramble last minute to get a suitcase….
the marketing machine at work.
“Sale price” is an effective marketing tool in and of itself. I know a chick who feels urgency at the sight of an on-sale-now sign. She buys the stupidest shit, like clothes that will never ever fit her. My closet is looking pretty nice so I’ll just leave it at that.
Kay, come out of the closet.
Its nice out here
Just use ‘Cape Breton’ luggage . . Sobeys bags
Those 50-75 % off signs you see are usually referring to the suggested MSRP rather than that stores actual regular price. You will see the words “compared at” in very small font somewhere on those signs if you look hard enough.
They create the impression of sale to induce a panic buy situation that kay’s friend seems to suffer from.
Damn… lovinglife jacked my comment. Or, alternatively, they’ll have a regular price, then they’ll keep the sale price steady. Anytime you deal in a business that makes anywhere between 70-200% profit on a product. It’s real bad in furniture stores.
It’s the SALE sign that leads the sheep to have their wallets slaughtered.
How often do you have to buy luggage?
Isn’t it one of those once-every-decade-or-so kind of purchases?
Love my military duffle bag. Holds more than regular luggage and isn’t pretty enough to steal.
RubyJane- Proud to say this is the first time I had to buy luggage. Made do with nap sacks and gym bags before that. Now I’m finding it hurts to sling stuff over my shoulders. Had borrowed a friend’s carry-on with wheels a couple times and decided if I borrowed it again I’d be imposing on their generosity. So at the last minute my partner searched the barn and discovered a very dusty old long lost (for a reason) carry-on. I was surprised she actually wanted to use it, cus I sure as hell wasn’t. I mean you could clearly see the vacuum streaks on it from trying to get the dust off. It was hilarious. Our friends joked about not wanting to walk beside us. So if that wasn’t bad enough the zipper breaks after they rummaged through it in customs. I tied a strap around its waist but stuff was falling out the bottom. Pretty much forced after that to partake in the “SALE”.
I am aware of the marketing ploys but they seem to have the opposite effect on me. I can see if they’re clearing out inventory or something is damaged but these constant “SALES” annoy the crap out of me. It is blatant over mark-up bullshit. It even bugs me to shop at grocery stores because of their attempts to try to squeeze more money out of you by making you travel to the back corner of the store if you just want to pick up blend. To me these are marketing ploys not tools as Kay stated. Tools are helpful. Ploys are meant to confuse, distract and deceive all just to siphon out our wallets. Yet it is so widely accepted and embraced. This push for consumerism is damaging in so many ways, but that’s another bitch.
Uhhh yeah sorry for rambling on there. Too much information.
You can buy, water proof duvel bags, that are used by canoeists, campers etc. They come in a wide variety of colors & sizes, mine is hunter orange, you can see the glow of it before it comes through the curtain of the airport lugage carosels. They’re tough , they’re completely water proof, & they’re not expensive compared to a sale priced item. No matter what you plan on doing from rough water rafting , wilderness camping, to big city destinations, these work.
Please do NOT mark up suitcases… Travelling is expensive enough as is!
