Most companies would notify someone by mail or phone when a payment doesn’t go through (especially when you processed your payment early due to a holiday, which made my payment three days early, or two days before my payday).
But not you, you sent me nothing, and didn’t make one phone call. I know you SAID you did, none of the calls you SAY you made ever showed on my cell bill. Between your “no NSF” policy which resulted in you cancelling my insurance, and my bank continuing to process your monthly payments, (apparently they were in on the conspiracy), I have been driving around with no insurance for months until a routine traffic stop. Even the HRM Police Force was aware I didn’t have insurance, but why would I need to know?
Now I can’t get insurance anywhere for under $200/month, because apparently my fine is considered as bad as a criminal conviction, even though I have 20 years of accident-free driving, and have never even had so much as a parking ticket. Oh, yeah, and nobody will allow me to make monthly payments because you cancelled me, and now I am considered a “high risk”. Which is ironic, because a friend who recently got her license back after a drunk driving conviction is paying $70/month as a “high risk” driver.
Fuck insurance. Maybe I’ll just keep driving without it. But of course I would never do that, because I am a law-abiding citizen (unless you money-grubbers make it impossible to be).

I’ve experienced this as well, the timing off and NSFs get charged on your account for what amounts to a few hours off.
perhaps you should look into overdraw as an option so this won’t happen again…
not that you’ll be able to afford it what with the raise in insurance.
some people just don’t give a goddamn. case in point,20 years ago, my insurance ran out, forgot to renew. 3 days later i got stopped by the cops, they checked, no insurance, ticket and big fucking fine. lost points off license, lost day of work going to court. insurance company cancelled my policy. lesson learned. don’t underestimate these crook bastards for one second, they don’t give a fuck for you, just your monthly payments. oh, to get new policy,at another company. $300.00 more a year. bring on the government insurance, where you pay at the time of plate renewal.
you ASSHOLE, OP! There’s a reason it’s illegal to drive without insurance. You should be grateful you didn’t learn this part of the law (and subsequent consequences) after killing somebody with the car you can’t afford to drive… like you can afford to hurt somebody with it. IDIOT!
In my experience a single NSF charge does not lead to cancellation of insurance unless it was your first payment. Paying your bills ain’t rocket science. Do it.
Set up automatic payments through your bank account or a credit card. Then you never have to worry about bills.
Insurance…one of the biggest scams there is !
Hundreds of millions of our dollars going out of Province Every Fucking year .
An industry where the best way to make record profits…is to deny the people who pay them for insurance in the first place !
Check out ‘Sicko’ sometime, that movie is actually about all the people who have insurance & they were denied help…so the Insurance Companies could increase their profit margin…..
And if you think I’m talking out of my ass…look at the soft injury cap that is in place here now !
Then check out NS Insurance 2009 RECORD PROFITS …L O L this fucking scam is getting to be just as big as religion !
THose of you who jump up & down screaming We need it, we need it, we need it are so close to becoming an actual sheep, you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself if someone wasn’t fleecing you .
ah, the old ‘insurance is a scam’ time again is it?
while I agree to an extent…. still….
and just be thankful it’s not government owned like the power company.
Uh, OP, if you payment never went through, how did you not realize it for months? Did you just think you were somehow magically saving the same amount of money as your insurance was supposed to be? Duh… you’re an idiot if you don’t watch your bank account that closely.
government enforced… but not owned.
and really… the ‘gubment’ are so clueless they couldn’t find their own todger even if lorena bobbitt chopped it off and handed it to them.
Ahh insurance. Gotta love to hate that shit.
I know it shouldn’t, but it continues to amaze me how many people only read part of a post before they fly off the handle spouting off on one point while ignoring the rest.
OP, go after the bank who continued to process your payments – they had to have been going somewhere…
I wish my commercial truck insurance was 200 a month !!!! But yea – you have to wonder where the payments where going ? Insurance ! Can’t drive without it and can’t shoot them either .
Learn to read, sebastard. OP *did* have it set up through the bank.
Dummy.
Also, Gidget, unfortunately, the bank has no responsibility to account for where your payments are going — if you give someone authority to take money out of your account for an automatic payment, they won’t do shit to stop it (you’d have to put a stop payment in every single time, OR close your account and open another one). The problem here is the insurance company. They obviously had it transfered into their accounts from the bank. If they cancelled the policy, but kept taking money, they committed an illegal act and OP could probably sue for the funds.
I would love for people to actually do research before commenting, go look at the basic definition of what insurance is! I personally am a insurance professional. Insurance companies will only deny a claim if it can be proven that you did not follow within the contract that was set up when you purchased it. If your insurance company canceled for non payment based off what I have ready, 1) set the payment withdrawal day to the day after you get paid. 2) fight it! contact the IBC, contact your local MLA something. Boom problems solved. 😛
