The price of cable is friggin ridiculous! First of all let me tell you why I am bitching. I only pay for internet and it cost $62 after being with them for two years, yet a starting package for a new customer is $29.95. This is outrageous. Yet another company charges $39.95 a month for their package which is guaranteed for two years. Yet I called my provider today to ask if they could price match but the lady said that they don’t price match that they could only lower my price to $43 for 6 months. I said that it wasn’t good enough and she told me she did not care if I called tomorrow to have my account disconnected. I hadn’t said anything about getting disconnected nor was I rude or have a tone with her yet since she gets so many rude people I get ignorant back I guess. This is ludicrous especially since they are starting customers at $29. I think they certainly do suck and I think that if you are a paying customer your bill should come down over the years for being faithful and paying your bills on time. People who have been paying for years get screwed and people who are just starting out get all the benefits. Such is life. —Unfair

  1. you can certainly play them off each other…
    that’s your prerogative.

I dunno about you but I don’t have the time or wanna deal with the hassle of disconnecting and re-connecting every time a promotion comes along.

don’t get me wrong, I actually think you’re right that long timers should get incentive to stay for good standing accounts… It’s just that the local providers suck and like leeching every buck they can.

  2. Could be a lot worse.

Go to Ontario or BC and have fun with those bandwith limits. 😀

  3. i actually dont mind usage caps. It caps other people taking the bandwidth and if you know what your doing you can bypass their software so you arent monitored. I was getting over 500gb download in toronto from rogers for 30 bucks a month lol.

  4. ya i worked tech support for them roger sis pretty much the worst company is canada. They do things that make nova scotia power look like saints. Build an smt thats good for 40 people without performance degradation then they stick 1000 people on it. That is the real reason behing usage caps, because they overload their equipment if everyone is using it.

  5. “if you know what your doing you can bypass their software “

o rly? Care to explain how you’d go about doing that?

  6. If you got an older modem that was DOCSIS 2.0 then you could open it up and resauder the lines into a direct ethernet connection. They used a piece of hardware inside the modem almost like a filter because they were not built to be compatible with their monitoring equipment. Bypass that filter and no more cap.

  7. depending on how the company is doing it as well with the newer modems a lot monitor mac address usage. You can spoof your mac address and bounce it thru a proxy to make it look like your not actually your modem that is using the usage cap, if its ip (i can’t see why a company would do it this way) you can also bounce that and make it look like your another client on their network and have your usage tagged on someone else.

  8. they used hardware for the cap instead of throttling on their side (while they packet spy on ya)?
that’s both stupid on their part and excellent for the customer…
    I did not know that.

  9. think that’s bad, i’m paying 20 fucking bucks a night for wifi where i am right now. tomorrow, i sleep in the car.

  10. ya i was there when it was first coming out rogers did it the dumbest way possible. I dont know anymore but it was pretty hilarious at the time

  11. I went through the same thing. Since they didn’t care I left Eastfink for Alient. $39.95 for two years is a pretty good deal
