Just a tip to the world – it would be great if you could maintain some level of politeness while you use the internet. Specifically, when you’re trying to buy something from someone over the internet. Don’t ask someone to hold a piece of furniture for you for 3 days, keep in constant contact until the pickup day, and then drop off the face of the earth. If you’re not sure, say you’re not sure. Or at the very least, when you change your mind, send a short email with an apology. It’s just courtesy. —Could Have Sold it to Someone Else

First come first serve…its not like you are dealing with friends or family OB .
I agree. I’ve been trying to find a subleter for my apartment over the internet. I’ve had so many people contact me, but whenever I try to reach them in return there’s never an answer, no reply at all, just me waiting…
Yeah, that’s disrespectful. If you’re not interested in what’s advertised on the internet, either don’t contact someone in the first place, or send them a one line e-mail saying “I’m not interested, now go fuck yourself”.
That’s the problem with using the internet (classifieds?) to sell your stuff, OB.. People don’t feel the same sense of responsibility online as they would in person.
You may reach a broader audience but many of them will be duds.
OP, I got burned years ago (before the internet- a classified ad in my school paper). Ever since, it’s been show me the money, honey—this is a cash and carry business!
In regard to the Internet in general and manners, I can only point to this example of deep wisdom:

tip to o.p., you don’t know me, i don’t know you, get fucking bent. hw’s that, much better?
Put right in your ad that you will not hold the item and it is first come first serve.
If you put that in..people will know you are serious.
