To the talentless hack at the Coast who compared – with obviously no research done – Intelivote to Diebold. You dont have a clue! This is left wing fear-mongering at its worst. If you did some research on the technology you’d quickly realize you are comparing apples to elephants – the models are completely different. HRM will have control of the data, logs are kept and audit trails are in place…not the case with Diebold. How can you call yourselves journalists by crapping all over progress but not understanding what it actually is. Terrible bit of writing -Shame on you guys I am boycotting the Coast for good.

You’re entitled to your opinion, of course, but it’s interesting— so far I’ve gotten four emails directly about the article; two were from people in the internet voting industry (one was from Dean Smith, the owner of Intelivote) thanking me for the article (Smith called it “even handed”, the other company called it “fair”), and two were from organizations opposed to internet voting, and took me to task. So, make of that what you will.Like I said, you’re entitled to your opinion, but it’d be helpful if you actually pointed out a specific fact that you contest. Please note that I included the info about HRM audits and so forth.
You need to understand, OP, that the Coast needs to fill space, so they do that by manufacturing stories. Because they are not journalists, but rather left-wing opinion writers, anything that appears in the Coast has to have either cheerleading for the left, slamming of the right, or both. Hence the gratuitous comparison of the former CEO of Diebold — easy pickings for the Coasties — to the Intellivote people. It had nothing at all to do with the story, but it was a chance to bash the righties, so hey, why not toss it in?Personally I would have thought that the lefties would love electronic voting — their main constituency, clueless youth, is far more likely to vote on the internet than walk to a polling station and cast a ballot. But apparently their mantra of the great right-wing conspiracy trumped any rational thought this time around.
