I’d say call 911 on his ass, but I can be a bit hasty. So, if nothing else call and make a complaint with the police, I’d even check to see if that constitutes fraud, and if so see if through.
take him to tenancy board…that will fix his sorry ass. I know there is a fee but its also a complaint against him…
Your landlord has to return your damage deposit within 10 days of vacating the apartment. You should immediately file a complaint with the Tenancy Board. They will force him to return your damage deposit. Do it. Don’t let asshole landlords get away with screwing people around.
put his name out there…common i dare you! i ‘d love to hear who this scum suckin’ cock sucker was! the exact thing happened to one of my employees while she was waiting for her student loan! who also f@$%ed her around, she couldn’t afford groceries and went without food for almost 2 days. this landlord was one of those places that has more than one building- it was the building on the corner of Morris St. I’m sure somebody knows what I am talking about as that they have been doing this kind thing since forever!!!
I beleive by law, they need to have it to you by 10 days of your lease termination.Otherwise, you go after them lawfully (starting with the tenacy board?)

The landlord who is giving you the shaft probably was welcomed into Canada as a refugee at one time. This is the way they thank their adopted country, by treating renters like second class citizens.
We were all welcomed into Canada at one time – don’t be a rascist. There is a landlord by the initials VJ who has apartments on HOllis, Summer and various other places who is renowned for not giving deposits back. The Tenancy Board people sigh when they hear his name. If this was your landlord – get him to the TBd immediately. If it was someone else, bring him to the TBd asap. That’s why we pay our taxes – so you will be protected.

Make sure the slumlord bastard inculdes the interest on that deposit. That’s right, that money is held IN TRUST and said slumlord is obliged to include the intrest gained on the deposit when they return it to you and it wouldn’t be out of line if you demanded a that deposit be hand returned to you in the form of a certified cheque.
Hatr stingy landlords is right on the money with his description regarding many who have come to Canada for the opportunities not always available in their homeland. While there are probably a lot of awesome foreigners moving here there are also a lot of complete assholes who treat us Canadians as being lower than cattle on the list. I’m really tired of hearing Middle-Easterners bitch about how they hate the freedoms offered to Canadians (ie. women and gays having rights as two examples, being rude when you enter their cab, pizza shop or corner store as a customer or just being downright jerks to deal with when they come into a white-operated business. Many of the immigrants who own rental properties are slumlords who take your hard earned cash and send it back home instead of reinvesting some of it back into their properties.Call it racism if you want but I view it more as being honest and willing to speak the truth. Of course people in NS would rather look the other way instead of confronting an issue.

Thanks for all of your input. I am afraid that he is foreign but stereotypes aside he is 84 years old and I don’t know why he is doing this. I have since gone to RTB and got an application to file a complaint. There’s a $25 fee but I’m more concerned about the principle. I won’t forget to ask for interest.
HOMBURG did it to me!!! THey claimed I backed out on my lease and I owe THEM money. We gave them three months written and faxed, emailed, and phone, to avoid this and they STILL did it. I moved in August. As a matter of fact, im going to call them again now. Im filing a complaint with them. They shrug you off like your nothing.
I had that landlord. I had rats in my apartment. He told me he called an exterminator, who would arrive “tomorrow”. I took the day off, waited for the imaginary exterminator. He never showed up. I called the landlord, he said that he didn’t know what happend. The exterminator would be there “tomorrow”. This went on for a week. The exterminator never showed up, and I caught the rat with a gigantic rat trap. Should have taken it down to his Hollis street office. He didn’t give our damage deposit back either! We got the exact same responses as the bitcher. “it’s in the mail”, “we don’t want to write another cheque”. Don’t ever live in his apartments.
