If it makes you feel better OP I have lots of responsibilities all summer long and pretty much no time to go anywhere and I’ll never be able to drive myself around because I can’t see signs well enough to read them.

Hmm…no responsibilities to me kind of mean’s no job. With not knowing the entire situation I am going to go ahead and make an assumption and say that perhaps if the OP got a job and some responsibilities, they could then afford a car? But meh, that’s just me.
OP, If you want to get out for hikes, or something along those lines. Put an ad on kijiji. See if anyone has similar activities in mind that has a car. Perhaps you could then travel together?
