So it’s Canada Day and on my way to the Keith’s Brewery to pick up beer (of course I forgot everything else would be closed) I see about 5-6 of these fuckin’ clad-in-dark-coloured-rags squeegee kids/punks/atheists/burden-to-society or whatever the fuck they consider themselves. Dreads, studded belts, neckerchiefs…aren’t they, like, soooooooo bad-ass? With these pieces of shit are about as many dogs, the majority of which are unleashed (actually, they had leashes on but they were dragging behind them because they’re idiotic owners are fuckheads).
It’s not bad enough that the waterfront folks are now going to have to put up with your no-doubt-drunken behaviour, along with your unleashed stray dogs, but the drivers on Lower Water Street had to avoid your dogs as they walked all over the road. It’s not THEIR fault…they see a chance to get the fuck away from their destitute owners (cuz let’s be honest, I think the dogs could be homeless WITHOUT your help) and they wanna take it. It’s the owners’ fault, and one guy actually walked into the street, picked up his dog and flung him back onto the sidewalk. Another dog walked in front of a van that was pulling out into the street, with apparently no concern on behalf of these so-called owners.
It’s been said a million times but if these assholes can’t be bothered to actually take care of these dogs properly they should NOT have them. All they do is get in the way, throw themselves into traffic and impose their mediocre squeegee skills on unwilling drivers – expecting some sort of payment for their meager attempts at being useful. I hope their dogs bite their faces off some night. Useless pieces of shit. I hate them and wish nothing but the worst upon them and their ilk. Some day somebody’s going to lose their patience with you fuck-ups and treat you like you treat your dogs. I await that day.

and YOU make me sick.those people are trying to make a buck. you obviously have no clue what it feels like to be destitute. one doesnt get there by choice, like you seem to think.they didnt choose to spend their life on the street. they didnt choose to be verbally abused by ‘nice people’ like you.i hope one day you wake up and smell the coffee. or maybe one of your kids will become a squeegee kid after running away from your abusive home.
yah i mean what the fuck. They didn’t choose to be out on the street struggling to survive the same way i didnt choose to get a job pay taxes and contribute to our society. There is obviously nothing they can do other than what they are doing. Maybe they are out there cause they couldn’t find an apartment that accepted dogs.
yeah. just like they didnt choose to be abused as children.or like they didnt choose to be kicked out of their house.or like they didnt choose the parents they were born to.you people, and your righteousness make me sick. with all the ‘i am holier than thou’ bullcrap you are spewing, you fail to see the human tragedy that is behind every homeless person.perhaps you should try it, get rid of all your ids, live on the street for a year, and then try to get a job. good luck!
Ohh yah I forgot that they got abused as children? I’m not saying they did or didn’t but I didn’t know that is what we assume about homeless these days.If they got kicked out of their homes as youths odds are they did make choices that led to that happening.Come on though if I tossed all my id’s lived on the street for a year and then had trouble finding a job would you feel bad for me? I doubt it.Giving panhandlers and squegiers money is NOT going to help them. You are providing them with just enough to get by and not work and thus perpetuating a cycle that they will never get out of. When people suggest that they get a job it is so they can do better than bumming money off of passers by.If you truly feel bad for the homeless why not lobby local business to help try and get them work and off the street. Putting money in that cup, to me, is like saying here yah go buddy sit your self on that sidewalk and fucking stay put you aint going no where.Something else you can do to help homeless is point your finger at people online telling them they feel they are better than others when its pretty clear who has the ‘i am holier than thou’ attitude.
I wonder how many do this to break away from the machine called society? If this was 100-years ago or before I doubt you’d notice this behaviour. But because someone told you that you are suppose to own a house and a car, you go along with it.The other day I was downtown and saw one of these folks sleeping in a small garden under a tree in the middle of the city. The sun was out and he was free to nap at 1:00 pm. I was so jealous.
I was in downtown Halifaxc 2 weeks ago and struck up a conversation with a similar group from Ontario and Quebec. They all admitted they were taking a vacation down East thanks to those who will drop change in their cups. Guess staying in ON & QC and actually holding down a job is too difficult, or at least finding a job down here wasn’t in their plans.
Grindcore, I think you need to distinguish between squeegee kids and other “homeless” people. I think squeegee kids are more likely to have chosen their lifestyle rather than been forced into by misfortune or abuse. Even if they are on the streets to avoid a bad homelife, they have chosen the streets over choosing to get child protection services involved or choosing to live with friends or relatives until they get a job and can support themselves (which is the route people I know have taken). Or, they could be on the streets and getting a job and working their way out of the squeegee situation like at least 2 of the posters on this site have done in their past. I’m not completely unsympathetic to the squeegee kids, I just don’t think the picture you painted of them here is entirely accurate. They are in a lot better position to pull themselves out of “destitution” since the majority are young, able bodied and do not suffer from serious mental illness.
I am so tired of people and their political correctness in this day and age. Maybe its time that we realize that not everyone is a cause or a charity, and that some people choose to live the way they do because they are lazy, and would choose to sponge off of people rather then find their own way. If these squeegee kids are such good-natured people, unable to find a legitimate job, how about we set up squeegee booths, where they would have set hours, and their incomes would be taxed, just like the rest of us, where we give one third of our income to the government. How long do any of you honestly think that these people would last at these places? I wouldn’t say they would last a full shift. Most, if not all, of the squeegee kids I see are young people, in good shape, yet they are able to spend all of their time sitting in the sun (and yes the rain as well, for all your bleeding hearts out there) conversing with friends, and hanging with their dogs while sponging off of the hardworking people that are suckered into feeling sorry for them, or are intimidated by them. Are there people in society that have fallen on hard times, or suffered bad upbringings and were forced onto the streets in one way or another? Absolutely. But do any of you honestly believe that all these young men and women that are bumming around Halifax right now are unable to get their shit together if they so choose? But why would they choose that when they can sit on the side of the road and get drunk at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon, and have people hand money over to them because they look like maybe daddy never said I love you enough growing up. Give me a fucking break. I see these hardtimes don’t stop them from buying new Doc Martens, or from getting new tattoos and piercings. Go out and price any of these items, or sit in front of the liquor store on Quinpool sometime, and see where all of your handouts are going. I thought the city made it illegal to squeegee anyways? Maybe instead of a fine for that, maybe they should just make them take a shower, and wash their clothes.
I read this bitch earlier today and didn’t care enough to comment. I usually don’t. I seen these people tonight. I see the usual ones around, not overly bad just fucked. But the group tonight I haven’t seen before, poor dogs broke my heart. It honestly reminded me of dancing bears.
In my experience with squeegee kids and their dogs they ALWAYS give their dogs food and water before them selfs! To Hoon:do you know squeegee kids? have you sat down and discussed things with squeegee kids? because I have I know a few in fact and they are squeegee kids not because they are lazy its because (this is what I was told) its a way to travel around Canada, some people dont have family or anything so they dont have any where to go
