I know I know. and I pay my taxes but I don’t see why it’s required by law. We pay taxes on everything, really why does income taxe need to be paid?
“Believe it or not, we are still paying income taxes under the Income War Tax Act of 1917. Legally, we don’t have to pay income tax to the federal government; it is a voluntary tax. It is also illegal for Revenue Canada Taxation to collect provincial income taxes for the provinces. Also, tax loopholes, foundations, and tax deferrals have permitted those with higher incomes to get off the income tax hook and, with the cancellation of estate taxes in 1975, have allowed a few families to accumulate huge fortunes. Is it possible to NOT pay income taxes? Some people have been successful. Gerry Hart of Winnipeg, apparently won the constitutional argument in court 22 times and had NOT paid income taxes for 40 years, but information on how others have succeeded is difficult to find.”

Help enlighten me. Is this some crap conspiracy theory or is our money being stolen from us.
This article appears in Jun 26 – Jul 2, 2008.

I think our money is definately being stolen from us, I totally believe that there is probably somewhere it says that we don’t have to pay taxes. Where I have no clue? Would be nice not to pay taxes, and if there is a loop hole then that would be nice. But then again we might turn into the USA and that wouldn’t be good!
This de-tax bullshit is an urban myth and a pretty lame one at that… Some anarchist made this stuff up as a way to stir people up and its amazing how many people get sucked into it… only to end up paying more in interest and penalties than they would have paid in the first place… If you don’t want to pay your fair share of the cost of running this country, then go live in the woods and don’t expect any public service of any kind…
Holy fuck I never get tired about hearing about the ‘tax-scam’ every 6 months or so. Pay to Play fuckwad.
floyd would be correct.Taxes go to the cost of shit that we couldnt afford. I have stated many times about potholes and how expensive they are and how we are in the best climate for them in Canada, but people want to lower taxes, but that would leave less money to fix something that the gov cant control. The same goes for the increasing costs of health care. Unless you people that want lower taxes can figure out a way so that people living in poverty could afford decent health care, let us know, or let the taxes stay.I might not use the free medical service this province provides, but i would hate to lose access ot it or have it be too expensive to have or to have someone that cant afford it cheated away because you are complaining about your taxes.

You would be surprised at what is considered “free medical service” now…there are many things that are paid services that most people are unaware of.I have no problems paying my FAIR share…but that is just it, it’s not fair. Middle income earners are expected to cover the bulk of costs. High Income earners are given every opportunity to protect what they earn from going to taxes.Lets actually make it fair and also LOWER the ridiculous wages paid to MP’s and Cabinet Ministers etc.
I agree that if no one paid any taxes at all we would have major extremes. Major poverty, the crime would increase and our health care would be non existent. My question is Is there a need to be paying as much as we do? I think alot of our tax dollars are wasted and put into things that it shouldn’t.
I have a suggestion. Legalize pot. Tax it at a normal rate and watch the jail requirement significantly reduced, crime rates dwindle, and… watch this, pot grows everywhere! Any old Joe with some dirt can grow a weed and start a business!oooo… maybe this is dangerous if just anybody can do it. If pot were legal we’d stop selling our forests to the Americans for paper because we can make 4 times more from a crop of weed than we can from a similar sized crop of mature trees. Dow Corning would be out of business because with pot legalized we could make bio-plastics (no more polluting polycarbons) and we’d no longer need copious amounts of bleach to make the paper. Whoops, there goes the textile industry too, inundated with a renewable resource that harvests every six weeks or so. Ah, here’s the clincher. Bio fuel. More potent than than the ethanol they’re pulling out of corn? Better for the land post harvest? Indeed. If you’d like to see fewer tax dollars spent on maintaining “the war on pot” there may be more dollars left over for the things we really need… like reduced taxes.
That’s a good idea kay, not a new one… but a good idea nonetheless… A big problem though is that even if we could get our federal government to legislate it, the US would probably not allow it to happen…
never been a fan of legalize pot. Many tobacco smokers would grow pot and switch. Unlike tobacco, weed can be grown at home. To say you want to make that illegal, would require an increase of police as the cultivation of weed being so much easier, would make it all the more popular. One plant will last someone a month. We cant grow our own smokes. We need a kill and all that.Just not worth losing the tax revenue on cigs from all those that would switch. When i was smoking cigs, i would have switched in heartbeat if i could legally grow my own stash. How hard would it be to grow one plant? I mean the smell wouldnt be a way the cop could detect if i was growing, the smell is something that prevents us from growing now.
Homie… I’ve got to respectfully take issue with your statement: “Many tobacco smokers would grow pot and switch”… Did you just make that up..?? I haven’t heard that one before..
The addictive ingredient in tobacco is nicotine. There is 0% nicotine in marijuana… In fact, I don’t know of anything addictive about pot except, of course, that it’s fun! weeeeee
I don’t get totally get Homie’s point either – cigarettes and joints are not equal and interchangeable. Kay is correct to point out that weed doesn’t have nearly the addictive properties that tobacco has. Nicotine is extremely addictive. THC is (arguably) not addictive, except possibly psychologically or among long-term, heavy chronic users. But it is true that smoking weed is now much more common among high school students than smoking cigarettes is. It’s probably cheaper, and is more socially acceptable among people under a certain age. So maybe there is something to the idea…
Chump: I agree with you. Just look at the way things are;nobody is getting anything for their money except the polititians and their corporated friends!
Stupid politicians and their corporated friends *grumble grumble*… always getting stuff for their money *grumble grumble*
i dont know about cheaper 10 bucks a g or like 150 for a pretty good price on a single oz seems more expensive than ciggs.Although i also dont think the US will ever let us legalize pot…if we did it wouldnt have any real affect on how much people smoke ciggs…if the fact that there is a high chance it will kill you wount stop you why would being able to legally smoke weed?
Hey T – I was thinking of the total cost over time given normal patterns of use. People spend 10 buck on pack of smokes, but they smoke many more cigarettes than they would joints. How far will a gfram get a regular but not totally chronic pothead? I’m guessing 7 or 8 joints? About 2 days, maybe? (I could be way off, I don’t partake myself…)That would seem pretty equivalent to a pack of smokes – 10 bucks for a day or two. So if my guesstimations are accurate – for the average highschooler who might smoke 3 or 4 joints on the weekend – the total cost of the pot is much cheaper over time.
Ohhhh Jammie, you are way off…..I’d like to know where to get a “g” that equals to 7 or 8 “j’s”….it’s more like 3 joints per gram…but you’re right, if you smoke a pack a day it probably would equal out in price…considering you wouldn’t be smokin all day every day like you do with ciggarettes…….or at least it wouldn’t be too much more….if only quitting smoking were that easy! )-:
Thanks for the clarification Lori. Those sounds like big ole j’s to me, but what do I know! LOLBut yeah, one smokes many more cigs than j’s, due to the physical addiction, so it all levels out.
Jammie, I think i need your dealers number if you’re getting 7 or 8 joints out of a gram!
LOL. No dealer here.As I said, I wasn’t sure about the numbers because I don’t smoke myself. I’ve watched friends roll small joints with a bit a bit of weed and a bit of tobacco, and it seemed those little bags spread out to at least a few joints.
Elle Elle, What’s wrong with the US? Would you rather pay 30-50% of your income to get free health care, or would you rather pay 0 income tax but $500 for health coverage a year? I’d like that option instead of income tax. A visit to the doctor’s office is about $50-$100. I would prefer that option of having full-coverage health insurance that covers everything from A-Z at $500-$1000 a year than paying $1200 a month income tax! Wouldn’t you agree? The homie, I may be a little selfish, but I can only worry about myself. I met a lot of poor people. I spoke to a lot of people who are going from paycheck to paycheck barely making ends meet, that’s because this is all they want out of life. they decided it’s good to just drop out of school and not do anything for themselves. Get involved in drugs, whatever the case maybe. Everyone has a choice and they can live with that. I don’t need to live with the choice they make.Regarding living in the woods, well there are some ppl who live in the woods here in NS, work in NS, they don’t get services, they pretty much have their own well, septic tank, and septic field, yet they’re taxed as if they’re on city services, care to explain? What about they people who generate their own power and actually create their own roads and driveways, don’t you think they should get a tax break?
