Early Thursday morning I awoke to zeros on my microwave clock. We lost power through the night. I have a battery-powered alarm clock for just such purchases. I reset the clock. Again Saturday morning I reset the clock. Then the power goes out for two hours on Saturday night. Right in the middle of the Habs/Leafs game. I reset the clock. It’s Sunday morning now and again I must yes, you guessed it, reset the clock. I wonder what it was this time. Too much salt on the lines? Maybe it was the turtles. Yeah, too many turtles were weighing down the lines and caused an outage. Seemingly these onerous rate-hikes aren’t going toward infrastructure. —Powerless

this is nova scotia o.p., and power goes out here, quite a lot. if you want power all the time, i suggest getting solar cells and batteries.
My power rarely goes out.
it was planned maintenance, try having your phone number on your account so they can call you to tell you
Yes, VoT is correct. Everyone else got the voicemail. Be thankful your water wasn’t shut off IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER like a previous b!tch that near drove us all bonkers.
But but but I’m a customer and I expect a personal visit from NSP to tell me these things. How dare they expect me to listen to the radio, watch TV, or read a paper or anywhere else for this information. As for my phone number? Why would I want them to have that to call me for outages or God forbid, to tell me to pay my overdue bill.
the power company was saving you from watching the leafs.
Yup that happened to me too, living in Cole Harbour, The first 2 were scheduled outages, I recieved two automated phone calls about them, but the Saturday night one was definately not scheduled. I tried callng the Call Ctr, but got dicked around for about 10 minutes and hung up. What a fucking fragile grid that is, salt, snow, wind, turtles, dust bunnies, house hippos, they all interfere with the juice, and the price of said juice keeps fucking going up to keep the cocksucking share holders happy, the worst thing that Gov’t ever did was to sell that utility.
Don’t believe you, OP, if it wasn’t in the news.
But resetting clocks is a pain in the ass I’ll give you that.
Sony makes a great alarm clock that automatically sets the time based on your time zone. You just set the zone and it just knows the time. It has a built in rechargeable battery too and when the power goes back on it just zaps back to where it was (and keeps your alarm settings). Best alarm clock I’ve ever purchased (and only about $20). 🙂
Also: is it wrong that I don’t reset the micro/stove clock and just memorize the difference between the real time and the time on those clocks and add/subtract to get the real time when I look at it?
…thought so 🙁
Power rarely goes off in my neighborhood. Then again, the infrastructure is relatively new here. Cole Harbor eh? Maybe call up Sid The Kid and complain. Otherwise get used to resetting clocks.
My alarm clock has a 9V battery in it, when the power goes out it doesn’t display but it keeps the time and alarm settings. Frreaaking gold.
Except this morning when I turned it off in my sleep.
Damn Turtles and their destructive ways…

LOL, I’ve done that too, aliar. I’ve “woken up” and turned my clock off and don’t remember doing it….sometimes I do that too when people wake me up — i don’t remember they’ve woken me up but they claim they have. I blame it on sleeping like a brick — I could sleep through a nuclear blast. Only thing I *can’t * sleep through is someone beside me snoring. heh.
It’s not like they didn’t tell everyone a million times. I had two voicemails for each time the power went out. Try checking your messages.
