Why can’t bus riders leave their seats a little bit earlier, and be ready at the doors when they open? Instead they wait until the bus has stopped, and then saunter lazily to the doors, which causes a great big clusterfrak as they’re trying to get off at the same time as people are trying to get on.
Why not get up just a little bit sooner, and be ready to step out as soon as the doors open? —Tired Bus Rider

How about installing ejection seats so that when the bus gets close to their stop, they get thrown out.
Thumbs up on that one, Seb.
heh heh…. two thumbs at that.
really… I’ve never seen this as a problem…
though I avoid this high-traffic routes like the plague.
I suppose avoiding ‘clusterfrak’s is pretty much my goal every day…
whether I knew it or not.
They sit in their seat until the bus comes to a complete stop because this is what one is supposed to do. Why get thrown about and injured should an accident occur?
Your brain took an escape plan!
sometimes, the bus lurches, and if older people fall due to that, then m.t. would possibly have a lawsuit on it’s hands. the young are just fucking lazy scuzzballs.
Because I’m on my feet for 8 hours a day and want to sit as long as possible. If you have a problem with that, too bad.
Plus, the way some of these bus drivers drive, I’d prefer not to be walking down the aisle when the bus is moving. I’ve seen too many people go flying, including a poor old woman.
This bitch is the equivalent of drivers aggressively passing someone just to sit at a red light. Doing so will get you to where you’re going about no seconds sooner.
Actually Koda, transit buses are designed for standing and moving about while the vehicle is in motion. You see all those stanchions (the poles), graprails on the seat backs and the overhead straps – they are there to help you move about while enroute.
melectric – the ones who stay seated at their stop then freak out when the driver locks the back doof and starts to drive off DO cause the bus to get behind schedule.
I miss the busses back home that have nice comfy seats, with brakes and suspension that won’t send you flying when the drivers brake, with drivers who drive gently and yet somehow manage to keep on schedule, etc etc…. Here, riding a bus is like getting onto a roller coaster, only you didn’t pay for the thrill and danger that come with it.
i can only speak for myself, but i stay seated because i get totally knocked around when i’m standing up on the bus. and when the driver comes to a stop, there is a lurch, and i’ve lost my balance more than once (faulty knee)…so, staying seated til the bus actually stops is my only option. it only takes about 5 seconds to walk to the front of the bus to get off anyway. . .so much impatience with my generation!!!
Actually, voice of reason, that’s not true. The buses have poles, handles and straps for holding while standing, only, not walking. I used to work for the city insurance claims department and plenty of passenger fall claims were denied due to the passenger falling due to leaving the safety of their seat or standing position before bus had come to a complete stop. In other words, they fell while trying to walk as the bus was moving. Safety protocol states that passengers should remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. Or, in the case of standing, remain at the spot they are holding onto.
having a bad back and knees, it’s safer for me to wait. If you don’t like it – tough shit.
Taking the bus is NOT an imposition on the public. Chill the fuck out. I know, I know, patience takes practice. Try it! Your fellow man deserves your kindness, patience, tolerance, compassion… you know? Specific to humanity qualities. Get some!
Imagine the OP losing his shit when somebody in a wheelchair wants to get off the bus. I’d almost pay to see them squirm and lose their shit. Good fun in the HRM! LOL
I have no problem with people waiting until the bus stops – for many that’s the only safe option – but it’s the neds who insist on walking up to the front door and impeding those wanting to get on when there’s a perfectly functioning rear exit door who bug me.
The fact is OP, some people can’t/shouldn’t be standing when the bus is moving. Those that get up when the bus stops don’t take up too much time unless they can’t/won’t figure out the back door.
That said, besides people ignoring the back door, or failing to read instructions on how it opens (high floor buses, step down, low floor, touch the yellow bar/strip if the driver hasn’t already opened the door for you), people who wait until the bus stops to gather their cargo do annoy me. THIS is something that can mostly be done while the bus is in motion.
kay needs to take her own “advice” before she can actually start preaching to anyone else. what a loser.
PDG… there’s also the ‘flail your hand in front of the yellow bar’ buses as well…
OP, maybe people can get up to the door on buses you travel on, but on busier buses, there is NOTHING worse than standing holding onto a rail and having someone push by you to get to the door before the bus stops. Also some routes take more turns or have more bumps than others, and I think it’s in the best interest of everyone’s safety to stay seated until the bus stops.
Ah yes, forgot about those zZz, if there is no yellow bar, flail your hands very close to the door, almost touching to open. Lucky for me, those buses give me the option to just open them myself from the front.
Interestingly enough, I did exactly what the OP is suggesting this morning, at my final stop.
A woman got up and stood at the back door as the bus was coming in for a stop. I also stood up, holding on to the pole at the back stair. The driver seemed to be easing the bus to a stop, but then tapped the brakes hard enough to cause me to fall into the woman at the door. She lost her footing as well. Luckily, the door didn’t open until we were both composed.
THAT is why you stay seated until the bus is completely stopped!
and why cant people exit at the back door anymore? has everyone forgotten that this is a rule? i hate people who get off from the front door!
wow mave… you hate all who ride the bus in a wheelchair… and the elderly?
and most mothers/fathers with strollers… and anyone who gets on a really full bus and can’t make their way back?
any room for love left in that icy ribcage of yours?
