After a gruelling year of self-loathing with an unhealthy dose of shitty coping methods, I’m ready to love myself. I live in an amazing city with beautiful people. It’s a place I dreamed about going to growing up. There are always things you can bitch about, but come on. You live in Halifax. I live in Halifax. I am going to be happy. —Hopeful

Good for you OL. You just have to take life as it comes to you. Try and keep a positive attitude and deal with things one at a time and realize none of them are the end of the world. If you try your best, you have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of. One thing, don’t call yourself “Hopeful” call yourself “Certain”.
Troodon
Your such a sensitive,caring man.Wow
nobody likes quitters and you … are a quitter…
I’ve been faithfully loathing for years now.
In it for the long haul.
So few people realize that happiness is a choice. Great job, OP. Keep that attitude and you’ll go places.
Kontee
I agree,it’s taken me too long to get that through my head. But now that I know, no one or anything is going to make me happy, but me.I don’t know who said it but”Anything worth having is worth working for”. 🙂
Why would some dislike me last comment?
“Feeling happy just being me, is worth working towards”
Was what I was trying to say.
OL, I am really happy for you:). It is a truly cool thing to take an honest look at yourself, and figure out what it is you like about yourself and what you want to change. I think Troodon, Kontee, and Boru really hit the nail on the head–positive feedback that you well deserve:).
I especially liked Troodon’s post, and I agree that you should “try and deal with things one at a time and realize none of them are the end of the world”. Often when faced with difficult choices I ask myself “Is anybody gonna die/ get hurt if I (insert choice)?”–it deflates a little anxiety (makes me chuckle), and it also puts things in a good perspective for me by freeing me from the guilt brought on by choices made based on uncertainty or thoughtlessness. This increases my happiness quotient exponentially!! I hope you take Troodon’s advice. I believe YOU, OL, will garner the same result.
Boru, I also totally agree with you–“anything worth having is worth working for”. Great point! Your point speaks both to OL and to who he/she chooses to have in their life. OL chosing an honest self-perspective opens the door for others to respond in kind, because he/she will have created a space where trust can develop. A good girlfriend of mine would call you very ‘sage’ Boru…my words for you–Right On!!!
Back to you, OL–like Kontee says “keep the attitude and you’ll go places”, OL, I want you to know I believe this for you:). Truly. So you have really great feedback from the group AND some huges waves of positivity coming your way:)
And Zed (can’t forget you, my self-loathing compadre), you make it deliciously fun to like you…most of the time;P. Maybe it’s that sardonic wit…or maybe it’s your avatar, but you always make me at least grin and OL gives me hope for the world, so I am gonna send you doses of positivity too–just because I can! Deal with it dude;)
I hope everyone had an awesome long week end, especially you, OL–i believe the world has now become your oyster;)
*insert tasteless humour*
…I thought OP(male?) is looking for a clam.LoL
Good one Boru:D
ahh,…. positivity….

Hey Zed:D. I checked out your link and it melted all my cranky away! Told ya you’re deliciously fun to like–kinda like a Humbug: hard on the outside, but soft on the inside and sweet all over……now, you can baste me with sarcasm if ya need to, but I still won’t believe you’re sour;). Btw, did you get to your bike rally this past week end (I thought you mentioned it in another post)?
I did indeed ride ‘er to the rally. It was insanely packed again as usual.
There were some pretty sweet custom rides there….
Slingers had a Joker bike called the dark knight…
and there were some wicked flat black victory’s. Way too many to mention.
I spent a lot on gas this weekend, but put a lotta klicks on the pave.
just a small taste… from the rally page itself:

you a bike/rocker chic?
I picture you as this younger, tattoo’d up rocker chic… probably because of the way you were talking about music on the other thread…. but then you’re complimentary too so I can’t figure you out.
Hey Zed–glad you got to the rally. Looks like there was alotta cool happening. Thanks for the pics (saved em)….but no, I am not a biker chick or a rocker chick–i do love both though, but I know a lot more about the latter of the two….music is a huge part of my everyday life (I like to sing, but usually just with the headphones on and by myself, I noodle on guitar, and I listen to tunes a lot a lot a lot)….bikes fascinate me but my experience with them is limited. I notice them a lot and some are a real visual feast (again, thanks for the pics!)….I seriously thought about getting one a number of years ago, but then had a pretty bad car accident so I thought perhaps a bike was not the best idea…..I am older (46), but my heart is young (no partner, no kids:))…took up surfing last year (unfortunately have not gotten out yet this year)…no tats, but one in the works (on paper only right now)…how about you? Sometimes you seem older, other times you seem way too cool to be over 30–what’s up with that;)
“other times you seem way too cool to be over 30”
Are you saying you have to be young to be cool? Hellz no.
I’ve only just breached my 30’s… and feel like a cranky, sour, old man a lot of the times, with the virility of a teenage, aztec warrior.
That may be the cause of my apparent duality.
I’m not bi-polar… I’m bi-bitching!
there’s not really many places to even attempt to surf around here… at least not any that I’m aware of. Then again, I’m no ‘surfer dude shreddin’ the gnarly waves’…
If I’m in the water, I’m swimming like a dolphin or chasing the local wildlife like a shark.
You may appreciate these, I thought they were ‘totally rad’:

Hey man–no, you don’t need to be young to be cool, it’s just that the over 30 crowd (at least till they hit 45/50) seem waaaaay too concerned with the acquisition of stuff, even in terms of experiences (e.g., there are tonnes of dolts who think that they can pay their way to the summit of Everest AND that THAT is a cool thing–as we used to say, “gag me with a spoon!”)…just cracked the 30s…you seem fun in a 26ish kinda way (read as complimentary) :). Nice to know that there are dudes getting older without losing their dudeness Zed–get older if you must, but always maintain your personal reign in the Dudedom:)…speaking of the Dudedom, surfing is awesome here! Lawrencetown and Martinique are two good spots. L’town holds the Storm Surge competition (coming up or just past, I believe–i am kinda outta the loop these days), and I think Martinique holds a longboard comp in aug/sept. There are a couple of good places in Cow Bay too (near the church) but it is better if you go there with someone who surfs there pretty reg, I am told; and Conrad’s is really nice for sand and for waves, but the rips are strong, fast, and plenty….thanks for posting the links, btw:). I could only load the first, but you are right–totally rad AND great tune (awesome find dude:))!…so, other than dolphin and shark impersonations (btw, dolphins are great surfers…bet sharks are too), any other seaside hobbies Zed?
like long walks on the beach?
collecting the water-tempered smooth glass shards and weird rocks I stumble upon?
collecting seashells?
hell no.
my balance in a canoe is questionable and I’ve never kayaked before…
It certainly doesn’t look comfortable.
I may try white water rapids next year… or tubing down a lazy river sipping on a cold beer.
I hear there is all of that in the valley.
None of those things were what I meant Mr. Smarty-Pants…but I do have to say, given your self-proclaimed lack of balance, avoiding the white-water rapids is probably a good idea…stick to the tubing and beer–wear a helmet if it’s that scary……or maybe just buy a kiddie pool and a case of Stella…
it’s only in a canoe though… (obviously, since I haven’t killed myself on the motorcycle yet).
I find them very tipsy.
what did you mean then?
what else is there for sea-side hobbies?
seadoo or jetski would be bad ass…
you could join me.
http://paleonow.com/wp-content/uploads/201…
Why bother? You brought out your mean side…..boring….
I’m a sad panda.
Can’t take a little jovial ribbing… noted.
Zed, joking with a girl about her age is like joking with a guy about his penis size (really)….I usually can take (and give) a little ribbing…still, I am a little sensitive about my age….sorry I snapped at you…
That woman is clearly much much older than you.
You’re a standout in your own right…
taking up a sport like that is difficult at any age.
Don’t ever let an idiot comment from a jerk online ruin your day.
Thanks for the nice response Zed….today is a bit of a rough day, so really, thanks.
just think of all the killer waves about to make their way to our shores next week.
may be a little chilly… but when the tide’s right, the tide’s right.
ps, this will cheer ya up.
http://amazingdata.com/mediadata57/Image/c…
=:D Zed! You really DID cheer me up (more like made me LMFAO)…masturbating kitty looks just like my first pussycat…..you are right about the waves too–can’t wait to let the ocean wash the crap off me……how’s ur friday treating you?
typical friday… almost time for freedom.
still, the weather looks like it’s going to suck this weekend…
gonna have to see how many things I wanted to get to will come to fruition.
Well, for what it’s worth, I was listening to the Beatles when I was reading your response and ‘here comes the sun’ came on…maybe it won’t be such a sucky week end, even if the weather is sucky…..or maybe it was just time for that song to play…..either way I hope ya have a good one….
