I moved elsewhere in Canada, to a big city, convinced I wanted to be somewhere more “fast paced and cultured”.
I complained at the size of Halifax, I complained about the public transit, I complained about the lack of EVERYTHING.
Now…I miss everything about.
I miss the smell of the ocean, I miss the old, victorian houses. I miss the slow paced life.
I miss you Halifax.

But… you’re in MONTREAL for God’s sake! Why complain? As much as I love Halifax, I would kill the be in Montreal. If only I could parlais Francais.
Just so you don’t feel too homesick, think about how much the harbour here stinks. Most of the old brick houses in Montreal, with their little front yards and winding cast iron staircases, are way cooler than our old Victorian houses here anyway. There’s plenty of slow-pacedness to find in Montreal if you know where to look.
Yeah! Once you leave Montreal, you’ll be saying the same things you’re saying about Halifax, only about Montreal. “I miss the fast pace, I miss the culture!”
ENJOY IT while you’re there! You can always, always come back to Halifax in the future.
I’d swap with you in a heartbeat OP.
hey, i’m feel the exact same, except i’m in toronto.
i used to complain about halifax and wish i could get away, but now that i’m so far away in a huge city, i miss it.
oh hali.
we’ll eventually feel good about where we are and appreciate halifax even more when we come back. 🙂
Toronto is a bit gross, but Montreal is amazing!!
Perhaps you haven’t had a chance to stroll down St Denis? Or to wander through the Jean Talon Market? Or to make your way up and down Mont Royal? Or eat a Schwartz’s smoked meat sandwhich? Or party on a Sunday at Picnic Electronique? Or join the beat of drums during a Tam Tam session (every Sunday afternoon at Du Parc)? Or had a beer at Saint-Sulpice Bar? Or had a poutine at le banquise on Rachel Street?
And that’s just a start, my friend!
I am in Toronto…. and miss Halifax dearly…so I am returning in ten days! I am nervous to see how things have changed…but excited at the same time!!
