Using that cute little yellow sign instead that says “WARNING: CHILDREN PLAYING’ is setting yourself up to GET your kids ploughed. Reading that POS meant that by the time I was past your giant SUV(great place to put it, btw, in front of a visual obstacle and 4 fucking feet INTO THE STREET), if either one of your kids had decided to run out from behind it, I would have probably run them down. I’d already noticed your kids on the grass, and your bubblewrap crap distracted me.
I’m tired of seeing the fucking thing, it pisses me off, and eventually I can see it creating a shitload of problems and I’m calling someone about bylaws to get up in your shit.

The biggest issue in Portland Estates is the lack of sidewalks in the area. Most of the streets in that hood don’t have one…So if you want to run down some kids trying to get to the park on the street because there is no sidewalk then you should have your F-ing licence suspended for being a F-ing idiot…
I think the point of this bitch was that the sign is in the way, blocking the view of people driving who could easily hit a kid because the “kids playing” sigh obstructed their view.
The OP had a good point. Individual property owners putting up signs *on* a roadway is hazardous, stupid and counterproductive. It’s a distraction, for starters.
Here’s a clue – if you decided to raise a family in a subdivision that doesn’t have sidewalks (or not enough of them), and there aren’t enough playing fields for sports, don’t deflect criticism of your short-sightedness by claiming that it’s OK for kids to play in the streets. It’s not. That’s a public road, and it’s not your property. And BTW, geniuses, emergency vehicles expect to use all those roads too.
I have friends that live in these subdivisions too. When I visit I keep my eyes open, and I don’t usually tool along at anywhere close to the speed limit. That being said, at anywhere over about 25 kmh if the kids think it’s OK to play ball sports in the front yard or driveway (or God forbid, in the roadway), sooner or later one of them is going to get whacked (or give a law-abiding driver a heart attack).
One final note for all the “safety” nuts piping up – please don’t have walls of parked vehicles on both sides of your shitty little streets. You have driveways – use them. It’s those parked vehicles that are the worst safety hazard to kids.

The OB is absolutely right…personal signage is a haphazard and illegal way to accomplish what the sign poster was trying to do, for the very reasons stated and accomplishes the exact opposite result (the children are less safe with the distraction and sight line blockage). Let’s not even get onto the fact that once again…surprise a GIANT BLACK SUV is obnoxiously parked halfway into the street (4 feet) by a self-entitled asshat.
Swampy had every right to bitch about it, heshe even has the right to call the Municipality to lodge a complaint against the poster of the illegal signage, and to top it all off…I suggest parking enforcement for the crap parking job.
