So this guy shouts out his window “who the hell drives a bike down the road?” to me this morning. He then proceeded to honk at me several times. —tis’ folly to be wise

  1. A FUTURE BLISSFUL IGNORAMUS?

What is “Bliss”? Defined as a state of perfect happiness, how has your cycling caused this driver to attain such a revered state due to his ignorance alone. Is it not such a wonderous thing to cause others to feel such positive emotions? Maybe your cycling is a cause of great joy to ignoramuses everywhere. A thought to think along your morning commute.

  2. YES, IGNORANCE IS INDEED BLISS!

I have engaged this issue previously and see no need to modify, alter or otherwise change my view. What is that view? It rests upon an ontological foundation, specifically the benevolence of Nature itself. How is this so?

Where “bliss” might be seen as a state of passive, unreflective, perhaps even one of self-congratulatory well-being, the intelligent man is by nature thoughtful, probing and otherwise restless. In other words, he is never in a state of unreflective, passive bliss. But what is the relation of such a state to its ontological foundation, to the role of a benevolent Nature?

Contrary to the view of Nature as a state of ruthless competition to survive – “red in tooth and claw” as the old saying goes – I maintain that Nature is benevolent, that it pacifies, soothes and otherwise comforts those who hold erroneous and unsupportable views. In other words, it comforts the ignorant in their misconceived but nontheless self-congratulatory state of bliss.

It is only in terms of such an ontological foundation that one can begin to grasp the idiocy of many (most?) comments on this site.

  3. Almost saw a biker get squished this morning coming to work.
People are assholes whether they have 2 wheels or 4.
(Or in Wheels case, potentially 6)
