Ok, so you wanted a cute little puppy, you got a cute little puppy. Puppy needs to go out to pee at 2:30 am on a frigid February night and rather than put appropriate clothes on, a leash on the dog and venture out in your backyard you instead let the 12 week old puppy out on his own? Now he’s lost and a sob case on FB for a sight for lost doggys. You sir, are a loser! And those commenting about ‘oh…don’t judge, my puppy got off his leash too’! Ok…first off, I’m gonna judge! It’s human nature to judge, as it’s how we process what is around us to make safe calculated decions. My safe and calculated decision in this instance is that the owner is a selfish tool. Second, the tool of an owner never mentioned he put the dog on a leash. His excuse of an ad on Kijiji (sounds like it’s a tween’s FB post by the punctuation, or lack of!) doesn’t mention a leash. Just say’s ‘let the dog out to pee’ at 2:30 am! iI February.!…did I mention the ‘dog’ is a 12 week old puppy, the size of my foot? And yes, I get that many dog owners let their dogs out to pee, sans leash…but these dogs KNOW their home, their owner, etc. A 12 week old puppy doesn’t! I pray someone found the dog and is keeping it, as this guy doesn’t deserve it back….I’m sick and tired of the news stories of somebody’s ‘mistake’ resulting in an animal dying…(i.e. the dog walker that killed 6 dogs). These are not mistakes. A mistake is leaving the milk on the counter, or forgetting a slip on your taxes. A ‘mistake’ doesn’t result in the lose of a life, even an animal. So you miss your ‘buddy’ and want him back? Tough. Next time take care of your ‘buddy’ and maybe you won’t lose him…god I hope you don’t procreate! —Lazy cat owner

Can we get a name and address please? Oh, there’s gonna’ be a lynch-mobbin’ tonight!
agree with op. on ‘that’ site you shouldn’t make any negative comments because you want to make sure that everyone will post their lost dog. that’s the important thing – getting it out there.
but this is an ‘accident’ about the same as someone letting their dog out during fireworks or thunderstorms. it was no accident that the puppy got outside, it was a deliberate action by the lazy-assed, stupid, negligent jerk owner. even molly, the most obedient, most bonded dog there could be could still freak out during fireworks and any dog can lose their ‘identity’ when frightened.
so as supposed smarter humans, we make sure it doesn’t happen by getting off our lazy asses and TAKING the dog out.
12 weeks old. you don’t leave 12 week old puppies unsupervised, you don’t let little kids take them for walks or out to show their friends, you don’t tie them out.
that poor little thing. I hope too that someone found the puppy and kept him with love. but what are the chances that someone happened by at 230? or that the puppy lived long enough in that cold til someone happened by?
not bloody likely.
those homeless guys walking around with their dogs deserve and love their dogs more than this idiot. a lot more.
HUMAN NATURE
“It’s human nature to judge, as it’s how we process what is around us to make safe calculated decisions.” Lazy cat owner
Judging – reflective thought as the basis for making informed coherent decisions – is the defining component of human nature, of what it means to be a human being at all. The Lazy cat owner has failed the test and therefore what it means to be a human being. They should be put out and abandoned at 2:30AM on a frigid February morning. Only then might they begin to engage in reflective thought in order to make informed coherent decisions in the future.
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
Correction: The Lazy Cat Owner was the author of the bitch, not the villain of the piece who was un-named. But my point remains valid.
your point remains obscure mm. I fail to see the gulf between how op defines judging and yours
(your credibility suffers when you cannot keep track of who the op is, you know)
So the guy pretty much killed his puppy?
did he kick the puppy to death like that asshole in truro did? no.
no one knows if the puppy is alive or not anymore. an owl could have taken him, or a passing coyote. he was just a little thing.
the point of the bitch (as I read it) is don’t just open your door and let a 12 week old puppy out to pee (at any time of day or night, much let 2 fucking am) and then expect him to come scratching at the door when he is finished. it defies all common sense.
would you let a 1 year old human kid loose in the kitchen to make his own breakfast?
op has not suggested a lynch mob, or criminal charges, or even a fine. op has suggested the person get off his ass and take out the next puppy they get. or get a cat with a litter box so they won’t have all that bother.
and for me, I don’t give a rat’s ass what reason they had for opening that door at 2am and letting a puppy out all alone with only a puppy’s brain and experience to draw on. not good enough. FAIL.

My point did not refer to the gulf between how the op defines judging and mine. My point was simply to place the op’s judging in a wider context. (Your credibility suffers when you cannot understand my point, you know.)
The problem is that many people like the “idea” of owning a dog, and maybe have a nostalgia for a childhood pet, but are unprepared or unwilling to accept the responsibility. I like dogs but they are very much social animals, need a lot of attention, and don’t like being left alone for long periods. There are a number of disturbing videos on Youtube under titles like “dog left alone”.
We cats are much more self-sufficient but even we need some care and social interaction. Maybe a sock puppet would have been a better pet for the former puppy owner.
I would be such an awesome dog owner and I would love to have a dog – but I live by myself (and work 8 hrs/5days a week) in an apartment.
I think you would be hoist, and BECAUSE you would be, you realize that your current situation is not best for any dog.
dogs are social animals. they must be with other beings. being alone for a dog is misery and abandonment.
you could get two though…. lol.
If only this kind of passion could be directed to the plight of homeless human beings instead of critters.
if you are concerned about homeless humans then go for it. I won’t criticize *your* passion.
I do my bit, Gooddog.
and so should we all. we have our own passions. whether its tiny green tree frogs in the amazon or saving neo classical building facades in manhattan
whatever sparks your heart.
Yes, and hing froggs too!
^^ set up a gofundme to Amsterdam. I bet you’d get a buck or two.
‘Whatever sparks your heart.’
I like that, Good Dog Molly. Good ‘un, fellow bean.
Babyshambles, concern for the welfare of animals in no way diminishes one’s concern for the plight of human begins who are also suffering.
Animals are living beings, and the animals we encounter most frequently in our lives (dogs, cats, working animals, etc.) have intelligence and emotions akin to those that we have, and they have physical senses, sight, hearing, and smell among them, that are actually far superior to our own. A sound a human can barely hear can be loud and clear to a dog or cat.
Compassion is compassion. A person who is compassionate towards animals is also a person worthy of spending time in the company of other human beings. (It would do to remind people here that those who are intentionally cruel towards animals are a red flag, and almost always abusive towards people–especially children–who are more helpless than themselves. That is one deal-breaker test that everyone should keep in mind when they are dating–just a tip.)
So please do not criticize the original poster for posting that people who take on the responsibility of animal care also have a responsibility to not be cruel, neglectful, or just plain stupid. That person is exactly right, and there is no reason to think that abuse or neglect of human beings is being advocated by this.
Well now, I have the funds to go already so no need for handouts. I can’t decide when to go though they have announced the dates for Leather Pride. Fun!
Tell me now, why do you keep poking the bear?
OP is right, the actions of this owner are inexcusable. You stay with your dog unless it’s on a leash in the warmer times of the year. If I let my dogs out (leashed) for a quick pee in the winter, I watch them to make sure they aren’t stressed by the cold.
In this case, not only is it a puppy but a puppy of a miniature breed by the sounds of it. Easy pickings for a predator. Sad.
froggy, where/what was the poke? are you the bear?
Babyshambles I have concern for homeless people, I do but a 12 week old puppy is as vulnerable as a 12 week old baby! When you take home an animal you take on the responsibility and care for that creature for the rest of it’s life. If you live alone and have a heart attack your pets could possibly die by your side (starvation, etc). A homeless man, while in a dire situation and needing compassion still has SOME control over his situation (even basic i.e. it’s cold out he could find a stairwell and cover himself with papers or walk to a shelter). A 12 week old puppy cannot. It’s entirely dependent on it’s owner, who in this case didn’t want to brave the cold chilly night to do something he in all likely hood would have to do nightly for the next 20 years. That pisses me off. When someone’s laziness causes a death it pisses me off. If it makes you feel better, I’m pissed off that the guy in a wheelchair froze to death because the cab that dropped him off didn’t wait and see if he made it in safely. But seeing how my bitch took over 7 days to post I’m not gonna bother with another bitch…lord knows at this rate all the snow and ice bitchs will be posted when the grass is green again!
