Why the fuck would you go to an off-leash dog park if you don’t like dogs??!! I mean, seriously, if you are looking to go for a stroll around a park in peace and quiet, don’t go to the fucking Seaview Park!!! Choose one of the other many parks in the HRM. I feel that as a dog owner I am luckly that my pooch has the chance to run around with others like the pack animal that he is.But there are always these stupid damn people that show up at the park with their children and let them run around. These parents are fucking stupid. Eventhough the vast majority of dogs at the park would never intentionally hurt a child, The Seaview Park has a fenched in playground for a reason. The parents that allow their children to run around chasing dogs, in my opionion, are asking for trouble. Don’t be so fucking dumb. Don’t go to an f-ing off-leash dog park if you wanna play catch with kid. Please just go somewhere else and stop complaining about the dogs. Halifax did a wonderful thing for the dogs and their owners.

  1. I hate that. I had a woman once push her stroller on to the field so her baby could see the dogs then start to scream when they came over to greet her. Twice she did this.

And parents who let their kids jump all over dogs and chase them. Its great if your kid wants to say hi and then leave but I bring my dog there to socialize with other dogs, not your child. Its common knowledge that seaview is an off leash park.

  2. I think people who bring young kids to an off-leash dog park should keep their kids on leashes while they’re there.

  3. Off Leash Area Rules

Off leash area users are required to abide by the following rules:
•Dogs must be on leash unless signs indicate otherwise.
•Dogs must have current HRM tags.
    •You must carry a leash.
•Your dog must come to you when called.
•You must keep your dog within sight.
•You will be held responsible for any damages or injuries caused by a dog in your care.
•Dogs must not interfere with other park users.
•Aggressive dogs, female dogs in heat, and puppies under three months old are not permitted in off leash areas.
•You must pick up your dog’s waste immediately

Yeah. You dog owners at Seaview Park are real fucking responsible. Fuck you OP and fuck your bullshit. People shouldn’t have to go out of their way to go to another park because self-righteous asshole dog owners like you can’t follow the fucking rules. People have the right to take their kids to that park as much as you have the right to take your dog there. But there are rules about having your dog there and the vast majority of you don’t obey those rules. If you want an area to take your dog without kids around, don’t go to a fucking public park! Go outside the city and go into the woods or something. People have been taking their kids there for years and will continue to do so. As you so aptly put it yourself: IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T GO!!!!

  4. They should just add one more rule to the list and this bitch will cease to exist:
•Park users must not interfere with dogs also enjoying the park.

If it were me, I think I’d take my child to a safer place to play. It’s an off-leash area. Who would risk it? Why? Not all public parks are off-leash parks so I think it’s pretty easy to see who should find a better place to play.

  5. Halifax DID do a great thing in designating off-leash areas for dogs and owners. I take my dog to seaview quite regularly and most (not all) of the owners are very responsible for their dogs.

I agree with Kay in that if you don’t want to take the chance, then choose one of the other non-dog parks in the city.

So, Never Wrong (there’s an irony if I’ve ever seen one), have you ever been a dog owner? Do you know any “self-righteous” dog owners? As a human being, I don’t want to see any dog, let alone my own, hurt a child or toddler because their parents decided to let them run around with 20-30 dogs. Do you prefer we come to your place and shit on your lawn?

  6. “•Dogs must not interfere with other park users”

So are we supposed to grab our dog and run the other way when parents being their kids over to play with the ‘puppies’? I don’t fucking think so.

  7. I walk every lunchtime in PPP and almost daily encouner “responsible” mutt owners who don’t have their canine cocksuckers on a leash in the leash area – the standard answer seems to be “oh he doesn’t mean any harm” as the the toothed, slobbering fucker lunges for your nuts – the dog not the owner, although there are a few knob gobblers who might also do that.

  8. Yes. Yes you are.

While you are doing that you could maybe grow some tits and tell the parents what you are doing and why you are doing it.

I’ve seen kids come up to my dogs, when they aren’t doing it under their parent’s supervision I explain to the child that they should ask their mommy or daddy for permission before approach a stranger’s dogs.

I’ve seen good parents explain this to their kids before they approach my dog.

As the dog owner, the dog is your responsibility.

  9. Lukin77: Yes, I have been a dog owner. Several in my lifetime in fact. Yes, I know some of these self-righteous dog owners and they piss me off to no end. I have no problem with people taking their dogs to the off-leash parks, in fact I encourage it. Dogs need regular excercise in order to maintain good health, both physical and mental. Obviously you didn’t click on the link I put in my previous post and read the article. HRM’s one day study found over 200 piles of dogshit in that park. That’s just one park. 200 fucking piles of dogshit that haven’t been cleaned up by their lazy ass owners. You seem to think that the park should be entirely for dogs and their owners. The people who take their kids there have every right to use the park and feel safe while they are there. Have you ever had an off-leash toddler try and bite you? Because I sure haven’t, but I have had dogs that are off their leash try and bite me. Some were successful and their owners got an earfull for it. So by your reasoning, someone who lives say at the bottom end of Novalea, and wants to take their kids to the park, should have to walk up to Fort Needham Memorial Park instead of going to Seaview? All because the dog owners at Seaview can’t obey the rules. I’m not saying all the blame lies solely on the dogs and their owners. Parents need to take responsibility for the safety of their children and teach them to respect (not fear) strange dogs. But the rules are their to maintain safety and stability. If dog owners aren’t willing to put their dog back on it’s leash while there are children around, then they shouldn’t be in the park in the first place. There’s also the problem of people taking their dogs to parks that aren’t designated off leash parks and letting them run free. An example is Long Lake REGIONAL Park. I go there all the time and I see countless dog owners letting their dogs off leash and in a regional park, dogs are not allowed off leash period. I don’t care that the dogs are off their leash. What bothers me is that people refuse to put their dogs back on their leash when there are other people/children around. And if you let your dog shit on my lawn, you’d find that pile of shit smeared across your face.

  10. “And if you let your dog shit on my lawn, you’d find that pile of shit smeared across your face.”

    hahahaha

  11. I recommend carrying, and having your children carry, a strong bear-spray for any encounters with feral un-trained and un-controllable dogs that may attack.

  12. Its too bad that the irresponsible dog owners ruin it for everyone and put a stigma on all dog owners.

  13. dog shit. quite possibly the best reason to avoid feed them canned food.

virgomom, post the rule for the benefit of people who should think twice before approaching you or your dog, not to make you into a bully or a cop *geesh* Create the same sense of urgency and responsibility in parents that you would feel as an owner whose dog has wandered into the crotch of someone who’s not interested.

Never Wrong, (what link?) they paid somebody to count dog shit piles in the park? Could these people spot chihuahua poop chihuahua owners think invisible? Why not rent a ride-em-shit-piles-lawn mower and post a bike-cop there for a few weeks? Why complain when you can fix the problem with existing resources, policy and law enforcement?

neville_sanzibar, you’d find yourself in jail soon after. raise the bar, buddy, raise the bar.

I’m with the OP on this one. It’s a duh issue. I’m afraid of heights so let’s go sky diving! duh! I like dance music so let’s go to Barely’s. duh! I’m hate dogs so let’s walk through the dog park. duh.
