How is it that on a commute to Halifax from Sackville is backed up for almost 15 minutes for the Magazine Hill area? I’ll tell you… Because there was an small accident or some kind of hold up that involved police… On the OTHER SIDE of the highway.. That’s right, the side that is separated by a cement divider… The side that has nothing to do with my side of the road. YET miraculously, as soon as we pass the police scene… Free range for all the highway chickens! Why???? I bet if there was someone standing there watching the cars drive by so slow that they are almost going backwards, they would come to the conclusion that more than half were too busy breaking their fucking necks trying to see what was going on. Your little need for news is making the people who don’t care to make someone’s misfortune a circus, LATE for work.. I hope while your small town mentality makes you rear-end the person you’re likely tailgating. That will teach you to keep your eyes ahead… Not to the left. —Girl Who Has Places To Go

  1. LOL I can’t even tell you how many times I have had the same thoughts. People are fucked up and need to mind their own. It is so frustrating when you’re in the middle of a traffic jam only to find out the whole thing or the vast majority of it was caused by people driving slow so they dont miss anything. Just talking about it pisses me off lol. Nice to know I’m not the only person who can’t stand nosey people.

  2. I share your frustration, OB but where there are pretty flashing lights and sirens, there are rubberneckers. This is true whether you have “small town mentality” or “big city callousness”. (Incidentally, calling rubber-neckers “small town” while you’re commuting in from Sackville? Really?)

  3. I actually live in a small area outside of halifax as well, in an outskirt town. I am not originally from here, so perhaps if ob is implying he or she dis likes small town mentality whilst they live in or commute from Sackville or maybe this is the first time they travelled from this area..they are not from there, but only reside there. Or perhaps they are like myself and just realize that they dont want to be ‘typically’ small town just because circumstances have placed him / her there. I have to disagree with the Big-city callousness as well.. People who are from, say, New York.. are used to seeing crazy shit all the time. A police siren or ambulance is just as common as seeing a bus drive by. I may be completely wrong here but one does not have to be from a big city to not like small town mentality.

  4. All I meant is that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Whether OB is a transplant residing in Sackville or has lived there their whole lives, she can dislike the idea all she wants. The fact remains that in the grand scheme of things, it’s a small town and she’s living in it. (Hell, HRM is a small town for that matter). It seemed silly to me to make reference to a ‘small town mentality’ because we DO live in a small town. What other mentality are we supposed to have? To me, it sounded like OB was trying to use it as an insult.
Maybe callousness wasn’t the right word to use but my point was it doesn’t matter if it’s a small town or big city, there will always be those that have to rubberneck at the sight of emergency vehicles on the side of the road. I just took exception to the OB implying that it was only people with ‘small town mentality’ that acted this way.
Regardless, as I said, I agree that it IS frustrating.

  5. sigh, little girl who has places to go, try toronto or vancouver. then you can be 45 minutes late because the big city rubberneckers will be slowing you down. it’s the human condition.
maybe not china. they run over previously run over children in the road there. try there.

  6. Hey, OB, try idling no more. Then your dumb ass would get to where it got to go.

And becoming a surgeon? Bitch you couldn’t use a butter knife to lather up ol’ Biscuit properly wit yo’ dumb ass.

  7. All nosey people suck rocks, Not just the nosey people of the rubberneck persuasion, but the ones who are all up in your business too… Shitbags.

  8. OMG, I was on Mag Hill the same morning and I agree with OB 100%. I could not believe it when I came to discover it was something on the opposite side of the highway. WTF is wrong with ppl? Is your life that boring that your excitement for the day is seeing a broken down transport truck???? Very very sad….

  9. should have left earlier. Morning traffic is full of surprises.

If you think THIS city has bad traffic then you clearly have a VERY small town mentality.
