Why is it that every apartment I look at is an over-priced shit hole!
SERIOUSLY! I AM NOT GOING TO PAY $600-700 FOR A CRAMPED BACHELOR APARTMENT THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS FALLING APART.
I just wish there was a decent place to live in Halifax without having some asshole landlord taking advantage of me…

try moving out to fairview then.i pay 600 a month for a good size 2 bedroom.heat included,24/7/52.you pay own power, cable and such.fairly quiet area,i keep it that way.don’t want riff raff here, know what i mean.
Go to areas where the buildings are fairly new, like Clayton Park. If it looks like a shithole and smells like a shithole, it’s a shithole. There are places out there but you’ll probably have to commute. Living in town costs way more coin than it’s worth.
My 2 bdrm in Clayton Park is 648/month. My roomie and I split the rent. It’s a 2 minute walk from my door to the shopping area and bus terminal. Work is a 10 minute bus ride.
Beats anything I could find on the peninsula.
Of course if you don’t like Halifax’s high rents, try here:

I rent a 3 storey/3brm house for 650 in Cole Harbour. Yard, shopping, 10 minute bike to the ecoli free beach. Fuck living in town.
I would love to live downtown, but it is way to fucking expensive for shit holes. I live in CP, pay 795/mo for 2 br, 2 level with balcony, heat and hot water. 20 mins on the bus to dtown for work. However, there is fuck all to do in CP at night! Winstons sucks and that leaves what? nothing!
I’m helping someone try to find a new apartment near downtown right now so I definitely feel the OP’s frustration. It really is ridiculous.
You’re not going to get anything nice downtown for $600 a month. Try downtown dartmouth, maybe, there are some ok places and you’ve got the ferry right there to take you to halifax in about 10 minutes.
Lifesucks: I know it’s been said before, but would you please try hitting the space bar after you punctuate? Your comments make my brain bleed.
Plenty of decent places to live….you just have to do your search early. August is too late. One a good note, great time to buy a house!
You beat me to it, jennier. I live in DT Dartmouth and love it. On 2 bus routes, the ferry & bridge terminal are about 15 minute walks away. And, it’s actually quiet. Here’s hopin’ OP. Good luck!
I agree with shoe_chick and jennier, I live DT Dartmouth, can walk to the ferry/celtic corner in 6-7 minutes, drive to mic mac mall or the crossing in about 10, rainbow haven or lawrencetown beach in 15-25 min. The only reason it sucks this summer is the bridge shutdowns on the weekend mean I can’t get kablammered in Hali and get a cab home, but I don’t mind being the DD. I’d be interested in hearing more about your apartment though dgaf.
honestly Dartmouth i have a sweet ass apt for $600 i ahve all hard wood floors new windows etc all it takes is a 30 mins bus trip
My Dart 2 bdrm apt is 630. The only extra I pay is my cable/internet.
Try the west-north end. Prices are better, and the places arn’t half bad.
IF you’re looking for a price buster try st. james place, 1200 a month for 1 bedroom Crazyyyy
We’re not in T.O. we shouldn’t be paying T.O prices
Halifax wants to be toronto – got all the homie thugs, crazy rent and housing prices, crazy utilities, food is expensive and people drive like they are in toronto… wait except the wages are 30% lower…. Toronto here I come…
Yeah, except try purchasing a place in toronto, Hali sucks for renters but is great for purchasers… mostly.
My 3 bed/2 bath is $1000/mo in Clayton Park West.
Great location, great apartment. Probably cost twice that downtown, honestly.
So….look outside the downtown core like other posters mentioned.
Hey, come take the empty room in my condo, my roomie just bailed for school.
I am going to sublet my one bedroom on north st…soon if my landlord will let me…700 heat hot water and it isnt a shithole or small…
700 for a one bedroom on north street? yikes thats high!
lets all move to north end dartmouth!
