To the enlightened assholes of HRM:

Thanks for removing the bikes at Belleaire and North Street, the lovely and charming homemade gates of Bellaire Terrace. They were cool, beautiful and unique and you went and snapped them off and took them away.

Any expression that doesn’t fall into your narrow purview or receive official sanction has to be dismantled and taken away. It broke my heart when a neigbourhood youth exclaimed to his grandmother, “Oh no, the bikes are gone!” Reminds me of what you’re up to against City Mail.

On the eve of Nocturne I just want to thank the HRM for their true supports of organic, local arts and culture in our town. Long Live the Cogswell Interchange, Long Live Scotia Sqaure, Long Live mega concerts and our new convention center. Just be careful where you fly the official city flag…— jrotszta

  1. I moved into the neighbourhood in Jan and for the longest time I wondered why there were bicycles chained to the two posts on either side of Belle Aire. Apparently they’re hippie art (figured that out by about June). Though they were kind of cute. Municipalities have weird rules about dead bikes chained to signposts though… uh, like, it’s public property and it shouldn’t be there. So I kind of see both sides of the story. I do miss the bikes…

  2. To Raimn: You’ve lived in the neighborhood for almost a year, and you’re comfortable with describing something like that as “hippie art”? That seems like an umbrella term that borders on derogatory. Mind your manners.

  3. I’ve lived in Halifax for 31 years and I’m comfortable assessing piles of dog crap, smashed windows, puke and panhandlers as “hippie art”. Is there a more deconstructionist term I should be using?

  4. Ha ha, thanks, Colonel. Me thinks vince needs to lighten up, may have touched a little nerve there? I also said I kinda liked them. Meh. If I wanted to mind my manners, I’d find a better use of my time than LTWWB.
