If I had the money i would give to every charity that asked. But I don’t! I’m just a carpenter, we don’t make much per hour. I give when I can. However, as long as there are millionaire’s and billionaires on this planet, i don’t think the the working poor should be solicited for money. $16 hr doesn’t go far enough for me to have to worry about charity. There can not be rich without poor. —Tapped out

  1. Here’s the thing you should know about charities, poster. Much of the money donated to registered charities is to fund administration & office expenses with very little going to the actual cause. While not all charities operate on that level, many do which is frustrating if you want to donate a few bucks. I think the best course would be to give a small donation bag of goods to your local foodbank. Even if it’s just a couple of jars of peanut butter, whatever your budget will allow. Just make sure you know how your donation is being spent. And, hopefully, it won’t be going toward some charity CEO’s salary increase.

  2. I told the cashier at the Stupidstore this weekend after being asked if I wanted to donate $2.00, if they lowered their profit margin on food I wouldn’t have to subsidize poor people with my hard earned money. Imagine that, a giant corporation that underpays their employees, and uses “part time” status as a way to not pay benefits is going to guilt me into being a “good” citizen. Go fuck yourselves, and your $15.00/bag grapes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Well Anna, that’s not true. In fact, you can see the charity’s financial statements and charitable tax return online on Canada Revenue Agency’s website. There is accountability for charities…

  4. I guess you haven’t heard of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett (Modern) or Dale Carnegie, John D Rockerfeller (late 19th, early 20th century) and many other ridiculously rich people who have given billions upon billions to various charities over the last couple of hundred of years.

  5. Q)What’s the difference between a tragedy and a cow?

A)Bono couldn’t milk a cow to save his life.

  6. BRO TIM1, it’s a short list. Even Bill Gates himself said that people like him need to be taxed more if we want a real middle class. All those donations are also tax deductible. The people on your list aren’t saints, just good business men.
BRO TIM1, does your back ever get sore, bowing to your corporate masters?

  7. One Bill Gates gives more to charity than all of the Maritimes.

Sorry you don’t like facts. And donations are tax deductible for you too. Unlike you I don’t have corporate masters but I seem to understand money better than you. You want to punish people who work hard to make their money. As far as I’m concerned there should be a flat tax. Tell me why a rich person should pay more taxes? Why punish someone for being successful?

  8. Something is seriously flawed in your math, BT. 30% of $40,000 is still less than 30%/of $1,200,000. Therefore, regardless of the tax rate, people who make more will pay more. That isn’t punishment, that’s basic, fucking math. Gawd, some people’s children!

  9. BT, i never said donations were not deductible for me. If you have to make things up to win an argument, you will never win. Do you expect someone to write down the exception for everything they write? Yes, Bill Gates gives a lot, he is an exception. Mr. Gates also has a shit load more dispensable cash than the maritimes. Comparing a state or province to a human is stupid. If Bill is your poster boy for good rich people, look up what he thinks about taxes. Spoiler, it’s not a flat tax. Society as we know it, can’t survive with a flat tax. You still believe in trickle down do ya?

  10. Try charity in action rather than dollars? You are skilled. The most effective charity is in your neighborhood. Take some time with a kid. You obviously would enjoy it. I feel your pain.
