I still don’t get it…
It’s that time of year again…Pride Week. Why O’ why do gay folks need a parade? Can someone explain this to me? I can only guess it’s to create awareness and sensitivity towards homosexuality. And yes perhaps a parade could accomplish such things. But

First of all….your post is only going to have you branded as a homophobe….and secondly why don’t they have a straight pride week/parade, etc….a traditional family affair???? I personally could care less. I just tune that shit out.

Hey Slapshot, First off its not sexual preference, its sexual orientation. A preference is something you can control like whether you like fat or skinny chicks. Orientation is decided in the womb and its not decided by the person who eventually knows they are gay or straight. Why do we still need a parade? Well, when gay guys (or girls) are no longer gay bashed for being themselves or aren’t treated any different than out straight planet-mates then maybe we won’t need a pride week or even a parade. Why not ask the blacks why they still have a black history month. I’ll bet you get answers very close to those given by the gay community.No one is forcing anyone to attend any of the Pride week festivities so don’t go it its not your cup of tea. Simple answer eh?

You don’t GET it? It’s not the qaballa, man, it’s just a party. It’s a bunch of people getting together and celebrating their community, and inviting others to join the celebration. Just like the Greek Festival, or the Apple Blossom Festival, or the Agricultural Exhibition, or the Mahone Bay Wooden Boat Festival, or the Lunenburg Folk Festival…Shall I continue, or are you beginning to “get it”?
Having a parade to show ones involvement & support in a matter is absolutly fine. Gay Parades, Breast Cancer Relays, Terry Fox, Student sit ins and the list goes on; it is fantastic to stand up for what you believe in and have fun and take part. Congrats on bringing attention to your issues.But, I have recently read here and in the publications reasonings to anti-gay groups as in the same plight as blacks. You are comparing sexual preference/orientation to a dark history of race relations. I understand you probably go through some shitty bigotry, but it looks pretty ignorant when a defence of skin/race is used as a defence to gay-bashing of the parade.By the way, in defense of Slapshot, ex-hali you are actually wrong. Here is the dictionary definition of “Sexual Orientation”, and it doesn’t say anything about a womb, sorry.sexual orientationn. The direction of one’s sexual interest toward members of the same, opposite, or both sexes, especially a direction seen to be dictated by physiologic rather than sociologic forces. Replaces sexual preference in most contemporary uses.
