I just want to send some love to North End Halifax, which I will miss dearly when I move this weekend. I love you North End! I love walking through you to work, and the friendly shop owners (especially the smiling barber shop owner always standing in his door in the morning), and the way cars almost always let me cross before continuing their journeys. I love your grassroots feeling, the friendly neighbours, the community gardens and so much more.
I will miss you, but don’t worry, I’ll visit! After all, I still work there 5 days a week.

it is amazing isnt it…
Hippy!
Yup, pretty sweet neighborhood we have 🙂
north end IS halifax – the people – the smiles and hello’s from people you pass – the always helping hands around . Hippies ? Absolutely !!!!! Long live the North End . I miss it myself – walking through and never feeling alone now i have to deal with big city calgary – I wish it had a north end like our hali one
While the North End is still pretty great, I find it’s starting to get a bit over-rated with all the yuppies, artists, students (future yuppies), and gentrification. Not that these are necessarily bad things, just that it’s true down to earth blue-collar soul has been diminished (although not entirely wiped out, yet). Don’t get me wrong though, I still do love it. I think places like Downtown Dartmouth and Fairview will be the next “North End’s.”
Check out Tuxedo Park, Inglewood, or Victoria Park if you’re in Calgary. I think they’re a bit like North End Halifax – correct me if I’m wrong.
