First of all, Yes, I admit, I GREW UP in Ontario, a shitty city called Hamilton..
I am multiply disabled.. wheelchair & legally blind/hearing impaired.
I TRIED to do research before coming here, I LOVE Dartmouth! but the asshat IA/MSI workers wont give ANY information in emails or over the phone, I TRIED FOR 7 MONTHS! as did my ODSP worker.. to no avail..
This place is amazing, except for the god awful attitude towards those with multiple disabilities & the ass-backwards attitude towards those who ARE wanting to work!
I have been trying to find a job since I got here 16 months ago, NOTHING, not even Target, not even the CNIB does much, especially for those that WANT to work, the YMCA refuses to help those with disabilities, ( except for a ass old (with tiny monitor), computer) There is NO WHERE for a physically disabled woman to stay if she’s homeless.. of 14 soup kitchens, only 2 are properly wheelchair accessible..
I came here to ‘hang up’ my “”accessibility advocate for 20 years hat”” retire & try to find a job, marry the love of my life & settle in a place for the rest of my life..
not a fucking chance!
I’m fed up with the lame ass excuses that I’m faced with, from EVERYONE!!
holy fuck Halifax, PLEASE realise that tourists with disabilities are people too! ( NOT 1 tourist ‘sightseeing’ bus is accessible, nor are the cruises, harbour hopper, whale watching, & forget about even dreaming of getting around the maritimes without a car if your legally blind & forced to use a wheelchair, holy hell, Maritime bus has NO wheelchair accessible buses whatsoever!!
I’m tired, REALLY tired of fighting a province that is SO determined to stay in the last century!!
We are both legally blind, we are forced to live on $1048, max rent allowance is $570, no hydro coverage, only 3 of 9 needed medications are covered & forget it if you need a white cane!!
Also the amount of blatant discrimination by volunteering jobs & paid jobs as well as the Halifax Housing help centre, is just DISGUSTING!!
I’m sorry, but I LOVE HFX, I LOVE Dartmouth, I LOVE the maritimes, but since you all are a pack of XENOPHOBIC pricks, I’m going back toi my home province.. —deafblindwheels

Buh Bye
Well then, why did you come here in the first place? You sound like you’ve got a challenging life style, but why go to Halifax without all your ducks in a row?
I live about 30 minutes from Hamilton and they seem to be on par with what Halifax has to offer. But knowing that city well, I see why you love the Maritimes and Halifax more.
Wow, you seemed to get angrier as your bitch went along. I can’t say I blame you though your last line could have been left out. It must be very tough to get around with multiple handicaps.
We’re not all xenophobic pricks, sometimes things progress at a slow pace here. Best of luck back home.
Hello DBW,
I guess the world owes you something? It’s a shame, but life is much the same wherever you go or who you blame. Perhaps one day, you will find satisfaction and happiness come from within .. not without.
The Captain is working on a solution, OB. Stay with us.
It’s a terrible shame that your time in the Maritimes has been overshadowed by such an insurmountable road-block. I know how difficult it can be for someone with limiting disabilities to transport themselves around – Especially if you want to leave the city.
Good Luck
Bye!
