Was that over the shoulder nod with stuck out tongue face of disgust towards the woman in the hajab meant for me to agree with you because I had squeeze between you and her. Seems to me you had 50% roll in that narrowing of the isle on the bus. Also you bigoted f*ck; just because we are both Caucasian I do not, repeat, DO NOT share your disgust and hate to their cultural difference. Keep your hateful looks to yourself because I don’t need all that ugly in my line of vision. —I’ve had it. Officially

Tweren’t me. Honest Enjun!

“Honest Enjun” Very clever Colonel, I didn’t catch that at first.
People have every right to be racist. Its unfortunate, but its the truth.
Unless “Tongue-Boy” was trapping off about hajis and headbags, it’s the OP who made this about race.
And it’s not racist to despise the primitive superstitions of a religion.
Maybe they wanted to taste the rainbow.
I’m starting to worry about my Ivan crush.
It otay, Nukka. The wagon of love frequently breaks down under the baggage of life.
i’m with the op, i see this all the time. i just sigh and carry on and sometimes yell
Hijab. H-I-J-A-B. Hijab.
And maybe it was because she was blocking the way, not because she was wearing a hijab. H-I-J-A-B. Hijab.
in this city, i doubt it
anyone ever read the book Black Like Me ?
hijab’s are easy to don and a small male could probably get away with wearing one for a day or two. go out in public. pass. see what it’s like.
any PERSON just going about their daily life should be able to do so without assholes rolling their eyes or extrapolating to hell and back about bombs in backpacks or what they do at home. if the PERSON is doing their shopping/going to the dentist/returning books to the library they are not proselytizing. if you disagree with their religion or anything else about them (based on their dress) think lustily all you want. but speaking your thoughts, or visibly showing your disgust with that PERSON is childish and rude. it’s not illegal, and it’s certainly your right to behave like an insulting jerk, but it’s NOT NICE and it’s not something to be proud of.
yep good book. i wear a tartan scarf on my head in the winter, i’ve had folks say i look like a muslim. yeah, well my head is warm
I wear a black face mask, I suppose if I took public transit I would be accused of being a terrorist.
Yeah, OP, because the ONLY reason that guy would have made the face that he made was because of the woman in the hijab…
100% agreement with GDM. I’m going to relate a personal story with the full caveat that I probably deserve every flame I’m going to get. It’s no secret that I’ve been slamming Islam and Moslems lately. I’m usually much more comfortable with irreverence here, as opposed to out and out anger, but I fully acknowledge the tone of meanness that has been present in my comments lately. For those who haven’t guessed, the trigger was the murder of a British soldier, Lee Rigby, by a pair of savages acting in the name of islam, on a London Street. It hit me in a much more personal way than 9-11, 7/7, Bali, Barcelona or even Fort Hood.
(For those of you already composing counter-arguments, based in logic and reason, please – do not. My mind is still being ruled by emotion on this issue. I’m not prepared to tackle it with an open mind.)
Anyway, about 2 weeks after the murder of Drummer Rigby I was walking to the mall and at the bus stop was a ginger convert, in wool beanie and man dress. I felt my face turn into a mask of stone, of anger, and felt a rush of pure irrational dislike. He was with his wife who was wearing a headscarf, and a little girl, maybe age 2. I had to turn my face away. I could not control the wave of anger, but I knew that I had ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to involve this family, to intrude on their happiness, or to expose them to my own emotions. None.
Now – please read my next sentence very, very carefully:
I do not expect to be commended for this – because to paraphrase Chris Rock – “Cracker – that’s what you’re supposed to do!”
I really don’t understand where this duality came from. And I’m not sure where it is going to take me.
Anyhoo – sorry for using LTWWB as talk therapy – now, flame away.
Hey Ivan, nobody is perfect. The things you said on another thread that I ‘flamed’ about were the combination of more than just what you said. Sometimes I can get a bit carried away with things I say or the way I say them when I’m having extreme opinions – though, it’s usually not an attack on an individual just the way I am I guess. Like you, I have my reasons for this.
I actually agreed with your post above about disliking religion not being a form of racism. I happen to think that all religions should be mocked daily. Religion is a choice in Canada, for the most part, skin colour is not. The fact that some people in other cultures are forced into their religion and fed extremist views on which they sometimes act is disgusting, oppressive and dangerous.
I’m going to leave it at that cause I don’t think you’re a bad guy and don’t want to accidentally insult or upset you. For me the “straw that broke the camel’s back” was the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Everything shitty that’s happened after that is just not as bad by comparison. I wish there was a more apparent target for me to place that hate and disgust but the S.O.B shot himself so I just blame guns…but then I also don’t think people should lose their right to bare arms. :S Problems are easy – solutions are difficult.
And I do commend you for acting the way that you did. You cared enough about them to make sure they didn’t see your reaction. I do not know the circumstances that surround your reason for feeling exceptionally angered by the Drummer Rigby murder but it’s a good question for MM – can thoughts be evil or good? It is how we respond to the thoughts and how we treat other people that matters. You had enough respect not to make that anger known because you are a good guy in a dark place.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Rambling.
Cheers!
religion is one of my top “things that are wrong with the world” no gray, just black and white
You ramble with style Hoist. Always a pleasure to read.
And, thanks. >: )
I moved from Vancouver in part because I could no longer control my runaway racism. it was going to give me a stroke. as far as I know, I never let slip the façade of polite indifference, but inside I was ripping every face I saw with a cement buzz saw.
I was horrified at my thoughts. ashamed but incapable of stopping my reaction.
my g/f’s mother nursed injured kiwi soldiers who had been tortured in the pacific war. she kept an abiding hatred of that race all her life. but she did not let it sneak out into her words or actions. because she knew it was her own stuff to deal with, and her duty as a civilized human being to keep that pustule of hatred firmly tamped down.
just watching ‘justified’ on Netflix lately. those hillbillies think they are RIGHT. they are not ashamed of their biases, prejudices, behaviours. and I do not think it’s being ‘honest’ to spew such things, or two faced to hide it. you cannot always control the affect that some things are going to have on you, heck, its like guys’ pupils dilating when they see porn. but what you do about it, what you say when you open your mouth, that’s under your control.
so ivan, your behaviour at the bus stop, in my opinion, is the best you can do. that is not sarcasm. turn your face, spare the innocent. our hatreds are our own to deal with. watch your blood pressure son.
double post – re: religion. the whole concept is so loathsome to me, any religion, that I can’t even joke about it.
maybe Buddhist. maybe ok. makes sense to set oneself on fire instead of poisoning 100 followers. or torturing a million non believers.
op since when is it racist to hate Muslims? Racist would be hating Arabs. It may be a type of prejudice. But that prejudice is not called racism.
Being turned off by a certain religion is perfectly acceptable. I hate fucking scientologists. I don’t care what race they are.
I realize you didn’t actually USE the word racism but you DID use the word caucasian. And used it to compare your race to a religion, to a woman who is muslim. Then you go on to say “just because i’m caucasian, i do not judge on cultural differences”
Uh.. yeah. Why would you? That’s like saying “Just because I have detached earlobes, doesn’t mean i judge people who wear corduroy”
Muslims come in all shapes and sizes in terms of race and are found all over the world.
Just.. saying.
“our hatreds are our own to deal with”
The Captain usually enjoys your posts, Good Dog, but this line especially jumped out at me and has forced a comment.
An oft repeated mantra of the Captain’s, “Never subject others to your negative emotions.”
Personal divine beliefs and spirituality, I believe, are beneficial to individuals. Religions however, can breed a false sense of “I’m right because my God… and they’re wrong because their God…”. Its the organization of something so fundamentally personal to someone (their spiritual beliefs) into a dictated institution that naturally creates negativity, separation, and animosity. If these judgements were reneged, instead of applied to ‘everyone else’ outside of your group, then incidents like the Lee Rigby tragedy would hopefully only be committed by the criminally insane, and not the fired-up religious zealots.
Patience and tolerance would go a long way for people on all sides of these religious issues that we are experiencing.
http://rlv.zcache.com/stupid_people_contro…
hey cap, i’ll agree that some kind of personal spirituality is not necessarily loathsome to me (in other people) ( and as long as they keep it to themselves ) and as long as they don’t find a couple other people to hook up with or bang! you’ve got religion.
I don’t think many religions could accommodate tolerance – to have that faith means everything else is WRONG, right? so beat their blasphemous bodies into a pulp.
and patience? uh huh, like those two vultures sitting in the tree.
Here we go again, so it is time for this point:
There are Christians, and there are Christian extremists
(some passages from the bible instruct genocide)
There are Muslims, and there are Muslim extremists
(Some Islamic passages instruct genocide)
There are also Feminist extremists
(difference type feminism calls for women to take over all world management and destroy the lives of any man in the way)
There are soccer extremists
(people die at some of these games)
There are political extremists who don’t have religious motivations.
(Oklahoma city bombings)
There are political extremists who target religions when they themselves aren’t religious
(Hitler, Norway shootings, and many others)
There are Countries that go outside of international law in a pre emptive strike towards an entire country killing thousands of innocent civilians.
(U.S.A and some others)
There’s some idiot who goes on a rampage and kills his family because his wife didn’t make his eggs right
(Czech republic)
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON
BECAUSE
PEOPLE SUCK
If religion were gone it would just be over something else. Humans form realities to handle the Id and help the EGO and they don’t even realize it. Its really just what makes them ultimately handle their emotions.
Let’s not descriminate between what reasons are the result of the fact that people are just fucked up anyways. Let’s ALL look and try to UNDERSTAND the HUMAN CONDITION, and surpress the vicious cycle.
Thank you.
