When I saw that a friend of a friend is soliciting the internet for donations to attend a fancy university…I was appalled.
If you cannot afford to attend the school, don’t apply!
Are there really no other options closer to home? —Be realistic

Get a life! What do you care if someone is seeking help to further themselves and obtain a good education? It’s not like they are pretending to have cancer to rip people off or selling their virginity. If you don’t agree with it, don’t give them any money, but really! There are people trying to get money on the internet for things a lot less important than obtaining an education. Maybe they don’t have a rich family and don’t want to end up tens of thousands of dollars in debt like the rest of us. If they have achieved the requirements to get admitted to a good school then good for them and good for them for trying to find a way to make it possible!
I would say “best of luck” to your friend of a friend OP. You really shouldn’t concern yourself with it unless you’re worried they might succeed.
Most students demand that the government (read: taxpayers) foot the bill for their education. Your friend is just trying to eliminate the middleman.
B-Com. or Poly-sci?
I think I know that guy…or someone doing the same thing. (Mind you by fancy unioversity, it was NSCAD)
if she were the kind of student that deserved to go, someone would already be paying for it. They’re called scholarships.
So since she has none, why the panic op? Don’t worry. She’s not outshining you.
Yet.
“Most students demand that the government (read: taxpayers) foot the bill for their education. Your friend is just trying to eliminate the middleman.
B-Com. or Poly-sci?”
You say this as though only the student would benefit from his or her education. There are large social returns to education that benefit the public (read: taxpayers) as well as the individual. So yes the public (read: taxpayers) should pay for a fraction of the cost.
LMFAO – Thanks so much for your input Senator Wallin. And, by the way, go ride yourself.
Tell your friend to move to Qalipu First Nation in NFLD, OB.
When is NSCAD going under? They’ve had more reprieves than Chuck Manson.
No idea how Sen. Wallin and expense account scandals apply to an argument about education. Perhaps one could elaborate without masquerading arguments behind the obscure references of a political junky. Given the track record among LTWWB posters, I won’t get my hopes up.
I’d much rather contribute to an ambitious, bright, young person’s success than involuntarily contribute, in the form of taxes, to the lazy, blood-sucking leeches of society who would rather sleep in until noon than make respectable lives for themselves. See, I told you I’m not always nice lol
I like your handle, meowalot.
At least this student-to-be isn’t begging for money for IVF treatments. People actually do this: set up fundraisers to fund their fertility treatments. Ffs.
PK – meowalot is your old buddy canned. >; )
The Wallin reference was because I’ve never seen the ethos of Generation:Panhandle so blatantly articulated as in your comment. I won’t deny the social and economic benefits of investing in the future by way of a trained and educated populace; the fact that it’s become seen as an entitlement does not bode well for society, as a whole. Too many outstretched hands means I’m more likely to say fuck you all.
How’s that for elaboration?
Canned? Eww.
Nurse Hezz hates Attiwapiskat 🙁
Lol Biscuit! No hate in my heart for anything or anybody… Except spiders :-/
If the person is shameless and can actually get money, might as well. You sound jealous you didn’t think of it first lol.
Maybe it’s for a marketing degree.
I think some students would like the government to pay for their education, but MOST? As a student (on my second degree) I would disagree with the MOST part of that comment. I work two crappy minimum wage jobs, go to summer school, and get all A’s in an attempt to 1) earn scholarships and 2) make money to pay tuition. I know a lot of students that do the same. I also know several students who spread their degree over six or seven years just so that they can work enough hours to pay their tuition and still get good grades.
Maybe let’s all chill with the generalizations, shall we?

Guess which miserable old Luddite has discovered MemeGenerator?
Chillin’ like a villain.
The union movement should just start recruiting the students on campus at NSCAD that way it will save on paperwork when they want to unionize all the local coffee houses?
If it works, let me know. I’ve always wanted to go back to school on someone else’s dime.
Nurse Hezz hates Peter Parker 🙁
And so she should.
“Area Student Bitten By Radioactive Spider”
-Dies lingering, agonizing death.”
I’m on the fence about Peter Parker… He only has 4 limbs, 2 eyes and he’s not furry 🙂
