There is a fundraising event coming up at the Economy Shoe Shop on May 14th. I think this is ridiculous. An electrical engineer is asking you to give your money so he can buy $10,000cdn worth of cows in order to pay a dowry to his fiancée’s family in A

He did not ask for the money. His co-worker are having the fund-rasier for him. I agree with you that there are alot of other places that the money could go, but until you walk a mile in this guys shoes you shouldn’t judge.
you are an idiot. I’m not sure but I think that this fundraiser is being organized by his friends and had nothing to do with him aksing for money. maybe you should get some friends and maybe they will do something nice for you one day.

It is good you are aware of what is going on in the world. Really commendable.This guy did not do this, his coworkers did. They are the nice people here and he is the greedy one? Hmmm how is it that you can spout this stuff about what is going on in deepest Africa and you are not willing to give the benefit of doubt to your own fellow citizens. Do you think that the staff at the Shoeshop would do this sort of thing for just anybody?Do some research about dowry. It is not about selling anything to anybody. There is an alternative to buying insurance and that is relying on family via methods like the dowry. But no, you want the rest of us to fork out money to dubios (yes I have seen how much of my contribution goes into the ‘promised’ areas of “need”).
And I think he’s not an engineer yet so the implication behind emphasizing that he is an engineer is pretty unjustified. Yes there are tonnes of charities, there is always some place better or more noble to spend your money, when i take a friend who’s bummed out out for supper should i feel guilty that I didn’t put the $40 towards Feed the Children?
I work with bonny, the guy has two jobs and doesn’t make a whole lot of money, he’s not an engineer. He told the CBC crew he wasn’t, but they put that in their story anyway. He needs some money to get his wife in his arms. This isn’t about helping starving africans (a noble cause). Nobody attending sunday will be under that impression. What is with this about getting the people of halifax to pay for it? Your tax dollars are not involved. My hard earned money is going to a persoanl friend.

This is one of largest issues for central banks. By suppressing the price of gold they can gain peoples confidence in fiat money and force sub standard living conditions on those who mine it. Screw love eh? Yeah…why would ANYONE want to try to respect their partner’s culture and attempt to marry them with their families blessing? Sheesh. Some kids today! The nerve! Especially by trying to do something so traditional and respectable! The pig! He should be hung for attempting to purchase enough cattle that can support several families well into their ‘retirement’!!! He should TOTALLY buy a more socially acceptable ‘gift’ for her. Hey Boo-Yaa, If your argument is respecting culture, how is buying a ring any different than buying a cow? Here it is traditional and respectable to buy a finacee a ring, so why not have your friends throw a fundraiser and you can get her the nicest ring. Let everybody do whatever they want, just let them pay for it themselves.
I totally agree with the author of this message, I back you 100%.Canadians are too trusting and naieve.You people have no idea about the process of immigration and sponsorship.We are taken advantage of of all of the time because people in other parts of the world would give their body parts to live in land of ours!
It’s our right to respect or disrespect other cultures as we choose. It’s also our right to spend our time and money as we choose. I sure as hell won’t be helping this guy out, but if he can get $10,000 out of some suckers, more power to him!
