Really! To the flock of cyclists cruising down the St. Margaret’s Bay Road around noon on Sunday. Do you really think you own the road because you are going fast and wearing spandex? And was there a guy with an RCMP t-shirt in your midst? I am sorry I may have encroached on your space when I stopped behind that woman turning left. But you did not have have to yell out nasty epithets at me, or give me the finger later on when you cruised into the Armdale Roundabout without slowing down or yielding to anyone?
Of course, you had to ride up the big hill that is Quinpool Road, and you didn’t want to lose momentum.
Please, for your own safety, learn to share the road, and ride in single file like you are supposed to. Also please don’t yell out nasty things like that, keep your road rage under control. Behaviour like this gives cyclists a bad name. —That Was Me in the Blue Honda

I was driving in front of the armoury one night and 4 cyclists were biking side by side. The lane I was in was only one and I finally opened the window and hollered “single file please”. They then tried to intimidate me and slow down in front of me, turns out the leader of the pack owns a bike shop on quinpool (as identified by my passenger). What a dummy. When I ran them over and they cried it felt good. Wait, that last line was just in my imagination – unfortunately!
you have a horn… a very annoying horn sound indeed…
use ‘er when they’re purposely trying to jerk you around.
lay it on hard and long….
Too bad some of these of bike packs don’t have the same DNA as Lemmings, and go off a cliff.
♬ single file…..you know the rest
Yes Virginia, you ARE a fucking bitch – for NOT being courteous to people driving their bikes.
Look darling, you can hit a cyclist and NOT get hurt; it doesn’t work that way for the cyclist, ergo hurtful epithets and me confirming that indeed, you’re a bitch!
Fuck cyclists. They gotta obey the rules of the road like us. They take that risk getting hurt every time they act like a moron on the road and/or side walk.
If a cyclist gets hurt from his/her own stupidity it’s his/her fault.

If you were not blocking a bike lane, and they were behind you, it’s there job to avoind hitting you. Not the other way around. The motor vehicle act says that it is illegal to pass on the right, I would assume that the rule applies for bicycles as well. Just because it’s an accepted practise for cyclists to pass stopped or slow moving vehicles on the right, doesn’t mean it’s not illegal. Fuck cyclists that don’t abide by the rules of the road, fuck them in their pretentious goat asses!!!
Look OB, you admit you were in the wrong and they reacted, just take a look at the comments here and imagine the attitude these bikers encounter on a daily basis from the average asshole behind the wheel in Halifax, lots of people out there like the winners who grace the bitch board every single day trying to act hard (who I would bet act just the same behind the wheel when they think they’re anonymous and invincible in their car) if you didn’t get so close and become the straw that broke the camels back they wouldn’t have said a thing, suck it up like they have to every day dealing with the amount of abuse they take around here, and get over yourself.
All you responders who are picking on the OP, reread her post, she is obligated BY THE RULES OF THE ROAD AKA LAW ! ! ! to stop for a vehicle in front of her turning , “she may have encroached on their space” doesn’t mean SHE DID ! …if they weren’t riding sigle file … they were breaking the law.
I see it all the time out here, in the boonies. Packs of peddle bikes traveling 3 & 4 abreast, cursing at slow moving farm equipment etc. I though they rode bikes for exercise etc. the way some of them react to other drivers having the audacity to drive on “their road” they need to chill before their hearts EXPLODE !
THere is no attitude required, if they don’t follow the rules of the road they are in the WRONG.
Clearly most of the comments were written by non-cyclists! To all you motorists out there, did you know that it is actually a law to give cyclists one metre of space when passing? Who really isn’t obeying the “rules of the road”?
I was not part of the group upset by the blue Honda, but I was part of the Heartland Tour on Sunday morning and the number of stupid acts I saw by motorists far outnumbers the stupid acts by cyclists.
I have no respect for those with no respect for their fellow drivers whether it be car or bicycle.
In the past few weeks I’ve gotten to watch a lot people and traffic.
The vast (and I mean vast) majority of Halifax bike riders are dick-heads. The attitude is “fuck the pedestrians, fuck the cars, fuck the rules”. No helmet, no lights or refelctors, no signals, no hands, texting, blew through a crosswalk and cut off traffic with a left turn…and that was just one asshole.
So yes, 99% of the cyclist are ruining it for the rest.
I don’t see where the OP did anything wrong. I read the “I’m sorry I may have encroached on your space when I stopped behind that woman turning left…” part as it being a sarcastic comment. Because you know, a car stopping behind another car is a common occurrence and shouldn’t frighten cyclists.
jmm – you have ot give a meter ONLY if its feasible.. if its 2 lanes with oncoming traffic, clearly not feasible and definitely not safe.
OB probably squeezed a little to the right hoping to go around left turning vehicle, thus fucking up the flow for the crew.
Steve-O, your assumption is wrong. I’m not going to waste my time finding a link to back it up, but the whole “bikes passing on the right” thing was enshrined in the latest changes to the Motor Vehicle Act. It was given Royal Assent and everything. Suck on that.
secret agent is also dead wrong (heh). There is no “option” when it comes to the MVA, bicycles, and cars. Look it up on your next coffee break.
I think just on the fact that there are more cars than bicycles on the road, it stands to reason that there are more assholes and jackoffs in total driving cars compared to cyclists, even if you were to somehow prove that “99%” of cyclists are douchebags.
this is how i see it, as a motorist you should be happy to see a bike, one less car to deal with. cranky and i both pay taxes and drive a car and bike, so please don’t bring that up
I’m pretty sure you might be right about some of that, maybe the “passing” on the right part. I’m pretty sure, if there is no marked bike lane and if a car is in you way (you being behind the car) it’s your job to be in control of your bicycle enough to avoid an unforseen colision. Same as a rear end accident in a car. I see no difference in this situation and if she was turning right, and something unforseen around the corner prevents them from completely making their turn, the cyclist coming from behind is responsible to be in care and control of their bicycle, and stop in a prudent manner. Not wave the finger and verbally assault the driver of the car. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Op, so you sat there for 40 minutes without breaking the window, or having the owners paged? Geezus!
wrong thread gv, but i get your drift
Ahhh the mobile site makes another person besides me look dumb ;D. Of course it always chose to fuck up when I was making a comment about genital hygiene or something.
If I understand the Bitch, it was the dog’s owner who said 40 minutes. No info given as to how long the OP was there. Anyway, Mr. Upper Canadian’s sin of commission outweighs any potential sin of omission on the Bitcher’s part.

after it was thrown in my face last time I made sure to commit it to memory.
I give them a metre when possible but feel like opening my passenger door when they pass on the inside, clearing a full (on a good day) 1/2 inch between their handle bars and my mirror.
The legislation should be amended to require them to give us a metre as well. They are the ones in control of the spacing when they’re squeezing their sweaty asses between parked cars and cars stopped at a light.
And finally, as always, if you want to be treated as a motor vehicle, obey the rules applicable to motor vehicles. No picking and choosing from column A (pedestrian rules) and from column B (motor vehicle rules) when it suits you.
When the majority of cyclists start doing this, I think it will go a long way towards mutual respect on the roads. Not sure that will happen though.
