  1. Exactly…the stupid hipsters that protest “against condos” should recognize that if the city does not densify in this manner the development will simply move out to the periphery of the city which I’m quite sure is loads worse for the environment, the culture of the city, public health…everything.

  2. they think we all should just chill smoke a few fatties and like just rent a big ole house and like be all communal like yea baby yea 🙂

  3. Bring on the skyscrapers! Time to bring this city into the 19th century or more.

  4. I’m sad the development down at the hydrostones is going to be a condo building (at least that’s what I’ve been told) — I’d love to move into that building but I’m not in any position to buy right now. Great spot though. Not too far from the downtown core, but not right in the thick of it (so not so busy/noisy) and has great charm.

  5. I agree. It always amazes me how many people bitch about the various condos being built around the city. Anyone who’s ever spent 5 minutes in a city of size knows multi-unit dwellings (apartments, condos) are the most effective way to house people in the urban core. This is especially true in a peninsular city like Halifax, where you have a very finite amount of land.

Like Calvin said – the more people who live in the city, the less traffic, congestion, etc. I think it’s great that Halifax is building more places where people can live and walk to where they work/play/shop/eat/etc.

I also think that most of these new projects – like the one PK mentioned – have been in keeping with their respective neighbourhoods.

  6. Yeah but why would anybody want to have a tastefully built and useful condo building in which to house the citizens of the city when they could instead have a dilapidated, boarded-up, condemned warehouse – oops, I mean heritage building….

I mean if it was built in 1872, it MUST be of unrivaled value. Right? Even if it is basically a crumbling piece of shit…. But its a heritage POS!!!

  7. i can’t wait to see what comes scurrying out of the old met building

  8. If every single height restriction in HRM was removed – every single one – we would all be better off. The city would move into the 21st century, urban sprawl would be constrained, downtown would be revitalized…oh, but we couldn’t see the fucking harbor from the fucking citadel!! Oh noes!
