Dear neighbours, I am a dog owner and a dog lover. It pains me to hear the relentless, endless barking of some of the neighbourhood dogs (especially well past 10 pm). I’m not talking about intermittent barking at passersby, but what has become regular periods of sustained and desperate cries. Please pay attention to your dogs and don’t leave them outside when you leave, that’s cruel to your dogs and your neighbours! Dogs needed to be tended to, they cannot take care of themselves. If they are barking, they are likely trying to communicate – listen! Our new municipal law has reduced the time period of barking before police can be called; a reaction to this growing problem. Is that what we are coming to? We have long been a neighbourhood of community and conscientiousness, courtesy and kindness. We have been recognized nationally for this. Let’s keep ourselves and our dogs in check. —Fellow Dog Owner

  1. You wonder sometimes why some people even have dogs. They are highly intelligent, social creatures that need companionship. They are not a piece of furniture or even a goldfish. They’re highly dependent on their owners for shelter, food, exercise, love and reassurance.
I think the problem is that they are a bit of work and restrict one’s freedom. Some dogs suffer separation anxiety much like children and can’t be left alone without household damage or barking/howling.
People who want certain breeds for status or because their child wants a puppy are some of the main culprits here. They want the obedient dog without having to do what it takes to get it that way.
People must understand that an investment in a dog is like a 10-15 year investment in a child. Anything less and you have a problem.

  2. the way i see it o.p., is that if the owners were chained up all day too, they might think twice about getting a fucking animal.
i would seriously love to punch some of these fucking idiots out, but being in this society, law says i can’t. goddam laws.

  3. OP, you’re obviously aware of the bylaw, so call and report the mindless dumb fuck who can’t pay attention to their dog.

  4. sebastian_, I think the OP has lived in the neighbourhood in which this is a recent problem. This bitch seems to be more about the loss of community that arises when you have to call the police over trivial bullshit.

On that note, don’t move to Ottawa, where bylaw enforcers basically provide messenger services for neighbours.

  5. Oh… do I have to whup some Hydrostone arse? Do I????????? ‘Cause I will!!!!! pisses me off!

  6. Totally… unfortunately Rescue Ink has disbanded… Eric Bellows has taken over the rescue dogs at http://www.packethic.com. Have no idea what happened… they were awesome!!!! Maybe I could still call them to ‘rescue’ my boys for me…
