I totally agree with “bring out the Strap” Kids today are being brought up to “coast thru life”! never realizing the consequences to any of their actions.teachers hands are tied by the parents, parents hands are tied by the people who preach against violence in the home, the police’s hands are tied by the government, and the government’s hands are tied by the church. and everyone is scared to teach right from wrong! so where do we go? I don’t know but vigilancy is not where, and I am pretty sure beating a child is not good either- maybe we need to look at the laws – and police and start standing behind them more! it just seems like everyday there is some fear of retribution that prevents someone from doing what is right!

I am amused by house arrest…it is the justice systems solution to ‘jail’ without the cost of actually having the guilty in jail. A corrections officer calls or shows up once every few days or more often if you were a really bad person and you have to present at the door. Well lets say that they call/show up at 8pm on a Saturday night…so then that person is free to pretty much do whatever they want seeing that they’ve already been checked on…makes tonnes of sense…what a backward system.

Very surprised by Violent Crime in Halifax. I recently moved back to Halifax after 8 years from Vancouver so to tell you the truth it is not as bad as you think back here. Out there there are close to 16,000 homeless people with mental illness and addiction problems pushing carts and speed walking through allies everywhere.There is a growing trend in Canada where populations are moving to the cities and Halifax or the HRM has grown ten fold. As larger populations hit the nightlife in Halifax, there will be more violent crime and alcohol addictions so part of the problem is the culture to alcohol in this city. At the very least Pizza Corner should be forced to close at 12am or 1 am at the latest. Low income families with problems in regards to alcohol addiction or drug addictions will eventually have there personal problems spill into public ones. Kids will beat and rob to show their friends they are hard like other criminal icons in there impoverished neighborhoods and eventually they will run in packs. If government breaks up social housing or even rethinks it, the problems will not go away. They as in those in municipal government are focusing more on containment if they are even doing that.Taking the law into your own hand is not the answer and eventually causes more problems for the courts. Turning a blind eye will only fuel more corruption and trying to rewind the clock is a lot harder then trying to make a society progress.The municipal government of the HRM needs to put pressure on Rodney and his excersizing fiddle playing friends who in turn can put pressure on the religious right Stephen Harper to use the money he set aside for policing in municipalities across Canada.This is a money thing.
