1) If the line is long and there is a menu board, look at it and decide what you want BEFORE you get to the front of the line, instead of holding up everyone behind you.
2) Do not talk on your cell phone while ordering, as the server will not think that you are talking to them, causing you to get unnecessarily angry.
3) Do not get angry at your server for not making change for the parking meter. It’s not their fault you don’t carry cash or plan ahead.
4) Do not steal tips out of the tip cup because you don’t want to break a bill for your purchase.
5) Do not think that just because you made a purchase before closing, that gives you the right to stick around after the doors are locked to any additional customers. We have better things to do than wait for you to finish visiting.

peopel steal from the tip cup?holy crap
*people
Many of these cups have written right on the “give a penny or take a penny” or something to that effect, and seem to be there specifically for the purpose of avoiding bill-breaking.How is a customer to know when it is ok to grab a nickel or not?
see? other people make that typo than me! does little dance of glee.I agree with you on some of this……people should make up their minds before they get to the front, especally if they have kids in tow. hell, it gives you something to do while you wait. and as for the change- it’d be nice if they can give me some,b ut they only have a certain amount, and if they give me allt heir quarters someone else later on is screwed. if I want change I usually jsut say ‘could you give me a couple of loonies/quarters/whatever with that?” and they’ll do their best. I dont’ usually feel comforatble just getting change without buying something either, unless it’s my local corner shop where I go in there a lot so….as for tips, if it’s got a take a penny sticker, I do it. or you could just ask the cashier- they’ll let you know or maybe even do it for you.
I would assume his tip cup like every other tip cup in Halifax (I’ve seen anyways) has a sign on it that reads “Tips”.And I would think determining what you want off the menu board is common sense.
Yes many say tips. Many say “give and take” or whatever. Some say nothing. It’s just one of those little things that could trip you up and you get blasted for doing something fairly common…
May I add a #6 to the list? If the signs says “closed at 6” and its 6:05, then we are closed. Don’t stand there and look at me with a dumb expression, what do you want me to do about it?
This is how I approach things when ordering, if I go in not knowing what I want and there is a menu board. I linger in the background, decide what I want, then queue up in the line to wait my turn. I don’t get in line and then when it’s my turn, fiddle around, himming and hawing, can’t make a decision for what seems like an eternity. If the jar says ” give a penny / take a penny ” I take use of it, full stop, otherwise no fingers in the cookie jar, other than leaving something for the server.Simple isn’t it.
te tip cup doesn’t need a sign. take a look at the ‘take a penny’ cups. lo-and-behold…they only have pennies in them!. tip cups have lots of change. and sometimes small bills. but some people are arrogant and think they are entitled to it. one guy made change for the parking meter out of my tip cup one day. here’s the kicker. he took 4$ in quarters and gave me a twonie. smirked at me and left. now wheni am not standing at the cash. i take the tip cup off and put it under the counter. and rule #6 should be ‘order whats on the menu’ i understand switching white for whole wheat. but you dumbasses who are convinced you’re halarious when you ask the time hortons lady for a big mac and a large fry are getting on my nurves. and you are the same people who find it necesary to specifcally ask for the ‘winning 649 ticket’ give it a goddmn rest. we poor souls in the food service industry are so tired of hearing those lame jokes.
