So standing at the bus station at MicMac mall today March 22 I watch as people cross the street. One girl stopped looked before crossing. Once she sees the cars have stopped she continues to walk, while looking so engrossed on her text message. That she walks right into the car that was stopped for her. She did not stay in the cross walk lines she walk off them right into the car. Less then 5 minutes later another woman starts crossing with the cars yet again stopped and she stops in the middle of the cross walk to look at her phone’s text message.
Has cell phone usage fried people brains? These people should be fined. —Staying safe

About 2 weeks ago I witnessed a twenty something female…face buried in her smartphone… Jaywalk across South Park at South St. against the traffic signal…within inches of walking into the path of a south bound bus. A quick horn tap from the driver saved her life. In gratitude and class she had the nerve to brandish her middle finger. Apparently, she’s entitled to do whatever she wants…regardless of consequence. WTF is wrong with some people?
It seems in this city, drivers are to blame for everything. I have witnessed pedestrians jaywalk in front of Traffic Services on more than one occasion with the aid of Police indifference. Why should we be that surprised that some pedestrians are so stupid and careless? Only in Hali….in most other cities a jaywalker would think twice!
Only getting dumber and dumber as the decades go by. We see it everywhere. People would rather look at their phones while crossing streets than looking out for hazards. A word is more precious than life. How self-absorbed people have become. Nothing is more important than looking at that phone and some words or pictures. Come on people. Get your fucking noses out of your phone while doing something that could end your life in a split second. It’s not like you will be without your precious phone for hours. It takes less than 30 seconds to cross most streets here in HRM.” Heads up Halifax” awareness does not seem to be working. People don’t look up from their phones long enough to even know there is such an ongoing campaign. Dumb fucks.
It’s not just the crosswalks. Sidewalks are full of tech addicts too. Got pushed into a wall by one yesterday who was walking toward me, head down and veering into my path. I’ve seen a few texting drivers too so it seems like a level playing field when it comes to distractedness.
But it’s not about pedestrians vs drivers, or even pedestrians vs pedestrians.
The real issue is tech addiction. In the same way VLT’s are addictive for the hit to the dopamine and seratonin centres in the brain, cell phones (and computers) provide an addictive hit that is irresistable. It’s online dope and there are a LOT of addicts. It’s the lure of instant gratification. Excuse me while I go surf the net…
