I have been taking the a certain bus in Nova Scotia since I was just turning 12 years old, I am now 22, so for over 10 years. I’ve taken it fairly regularly, depending on my age, obviously much more once I was older. As someone whom has relied on this service to be able to attend events and travel out of a small community I am very disappointed in seeing it abolished. Now that I have moved to a more urban area, I want to be able to go see my family three hours away. I know many college students and young adults who do not drive or cannot afford a car rely on this service to visit family and friends, and most other modes of travel are extremely expensive. I’ve seen the buses so packed that taxis had to be called before, so it would seem to me that this service is in demand. I’m just quite upset that I now have no way home for Christmas, and many others whom live away from their family probably won’t either since the service is so cold-heartedly closing right before the holidays. I’m sure there are layoffs, cutbacks and trip departures they could cut to save them the “12 million” they’ve lost in 8 years. This is just ridiculous, a six person shuttle or two isn’t going to cover the amount of people who need to travel. —Probably Spending The Holidays Alone

  1. I find it a little disheartening that your family doesn’t have a single car or the desire to to either visit you instead… or pick you up for the holidays. Why you would want to visit people like that is beyond me.
Come to think of it… a shuttle is probably the same as the gas for them to pick you up and take you back… try looking into booking early?

Or, ya know, put that educated brain to good use and build a teleporter.

  2. This morning? Try every. damn. day.

I think I know who wrote this bitch. It’s sad to see the service go.

I’m sure someone can come pick you up for CHRISTMAS!

  3. I’ve been in this boat way… way longer than you.
the service years ago was cut back so that it didn’t even go past weymouth…
how does that help everyone past there?
that’s over an hour’s drive with zero service.
it doesn’t help.. at all….. so I figured shit out.
got rides or had the ‘rents come fetch me…
if they WANT to spend the holidays with you…
they’ll find a way to get ya. It’s not like it’s on short notice or anything…

  4. A) You’re using whom incorrectly. B) According to the news over the last couple of days, 2 other bus companies are interested in picking up the service. C) Thanks for doing that math for us at the beginning of your bitch.

  5. I hate to say it but zed’s right. The service HAS been cut way back from back in the day. I remember when the line was owned by a certain family from Hantsport. The bus went EVERYWHERE, including making a stop through Hantsport.

Once it was sold, a lot of the little towns it went through were cut, including the stop in Hantsport…. so it went straight through from Windsor to Wolfville.

Other forms of transport have been cut too — the train used to go from Halifax to Cape Breton at one point… I remember taking it with my mom to visit family and being dropped off in Port Hawksbury. My mom even took me on the train when I was less than a month old to visit family in CB (I still have the tickets in my baby book). When I was in grade 3 or something service was cut to Cape Breton. 🙁

  6. Also, I believe they applied to cut some routes not that long ago but the government wouldn’t let them.

  7. times change and things don’t o.p., but a bus is not really one. they were losing cash faster than harper doing a two face in ottawa. the llines are going the way of the halifax tram cars, extinct.

  8. They weren’t allowed to cut the routes that caused losses. Add to that the increase of fuel prices, higher wages, and taxes and I don’t think anyone would want to do it.

  9. here here! What away to ruin perfectly good chocolate. Terry can stick his chocolate orange up his arse.

  10. OB… call your MLA
Bitch at the Premier, through his office/e-mail.
THe rules that bus company’s have to operate under is the problem.
Get government’s big F’in nose out of the Bus service & there will be bus services taking up the slack before you know it.
ITs the regulations about routes & bus stop changes that are fucking everything up… bus company’s have to jump through shitloads of Government Bullshit to make as simple a change as moving a bus stop !
    its crazy.

  11. The demise of Acadian Lines is due to rising lines, decreased ridership, strigent government regulations not to mention the fact that Terry’s Chocolate Orange rules!
    Wait, lost focus there.

  12. Take care Good Dog, I normally wouldn’t hit a lady but Terry’s Chocolate Orange? I just don’t know.

  13. I’ve also been riding the bus since I was young almost 10 years I think this is a blessing in disguise to be honest of you look at the service from a rider’s point of view .. 75% of the drivers are unaccomadating inpatient assholes an it takes forever to get anywhere.. 7 hours from Halifax to Sydney? Come on! That’s way too long … And besides it wont be long until another by company swoops in and takes over.. Also, don’t fret about shuttle companies being expensive it’s only 10 dollars more than a bus, they’re accommodating and fast.. Worth the extra money of you ask me ! Good luck getting home my friend!

  14. fucking oranges… yack.
they might as well have shit in a box, wrap it up, and send it to me.
