After discussing this with my lab tech friend, I have to get an answer to this: what in the hell entitles a coffee-slinger at the hospital to get the same union wages and benefits as someone who’s actually gone out to better themselves thorough education and training? There’s no fucking way what they do equals the (huge) wage they get, or an equal position in the union. Pouring coffee does not equal 15 bucks an hour, and that ridiculous wage better not be coming out of all of the charity money. I buy those IWK balloons to help little sick kids, not your fat ass.

And who exactly are you on your high and mighty horse to judge them? You don’t even know them. Those lowly coffee slingers could be at that well paying job while they put themselves through university and when they come out could end up being YOUR boss. Or they could be older people that don’t want to be insulted with $7.45 an hour or whatever minimum wage is now after raising children thier whole lives. Pouring coffee may not equal $15 an hour (in your eyes), but at least it sort of makes up for having to deal with condescending people all day every day (although the nice customers far outweigh the not nice). And it’s damn harder work than being a lab tech, which i know because i worked at tim’s for five years and was a lab tech for one.
soooo…..how did you find out what they make at the hospital Tim’s. out of curiousity? If they make $15.hr, I’m putting my app in tomorrow!
How about them there NSLC employees making double what their sobeys/supertstore employees are making only 20ft away?
The horror! The horror!
Who cares how much they make? I think it’s great, actually.
So all people that work at Tim’s are “girls” Matt? How is someone else’s success unfair to your “poor” girlfriend? Sounds like you’d love to take a job away from one of those hospital workers and give it to your girlfriend. You sure sound like an self-obsessed, entitled prick- but then again, you always do!
Is this true????? Good for them if it is.
I think if you work for the same company, you should be entitled to the same wages as everyone else in the same position, regardless of your location. If the coffee shop inside the hospital was privately owned by the hospital and did not have Tim Horton’s name on it, then that would be different. Pay them whatever you want. And unless I misunderstood the above post, NSLC vs. Sobeys/Superstore is different as they are different companies. Maybe owned by the same top dog, but still different companies.
yah i am with mimi.if you work for the same company: same wages. as for the nslc vs superstore. LMAO so walmart employees should make the same wage as mcdonalds?and everyone in the food court at hlf shopping centre should make the same wages?? because they are a few feet apart??actually.. based on your logic “cranky” everyone in the halifax shopping centre should make the same amount.. as they are all a few feet away from eachother…hurray communism!!
I agree with equal pay for equal work but it gets a little murky when unions are involved. Can Tim’s unionize? Why is it that Tim’s in Alberta can afford to pay employees $17 an hour plus benefits when they don’t in Nova Scotia. You could argue cost of living but having lived in a few Canadian cities, I don’t think the cost in Halifax is so much lower to justify the extremely low pay.
I would like to point out that Tim Horton’s is a franchise and therefore the owner of the franchise can pay the employees whatever they want.
Oh Matt, shut the fuck up why don’t you? You’re such a fucking hick. Everyone is sick of your bitter diahrreah of the mouth. Seriously, fiuck the hell off, you’re like a blackfly or mosquito.
Sorry Matt, that was Fuck the hell off.
Haha, diahrreah of the mouth. Come on, Matt isn’t so bad. If anything, his posts make the conversation a bit more interesting. I think it’s great the Tim’s employees in the hospital get paid more than the average, but I also agree that it isn’t fair to the others who work just as hard at other Tim Horton’s. Life isn’t always fair though.
Damn, I think I might have a crush on you- everyone else on this site must lust after you too at the rate of things…Hospitals are unionized. Unions include all employees, even if they’re serving coffee so fuck you and get over it! Unionized people also pay union dues- its not free.
