To the granny geezer who honked like hell at me as I crossed North Street at the corner of Gladstone:
1. A crosswalk exists at EVERY intersection whether it is painted or not.
2. Drivers MUST yield the right of way to pedestrians who are lawfully within a crosswalk.
So calm the fuck down. —Lawful Pedestrian

What number bus was she driving.?
Its clear that you, OB, are applying a double standard when it comes to patience. You preach patience while you don’t have the patience to wait a couple seconds for the road to clear before you bully your way into traffic, using your “right” as an excuse for being a douche. Why don’t you apply the rules you undoubtedly learned in grade 2, be patient, look both ways, and cross when the road is clear? Especially at an unmarked crosswalk!
Very few drivers realize this. Why can’t old people (for lack of a better term) have to retake the drivers test? Well, more the knowledge side of it. Hell, I even got into an argument over the weekend with two people (that were twice my age) that bikes can and should be on the sidewalk. I was shocked to say the least. Same goes with your experience OB, the older you get, the less likely you’ll change or adapt to the “newer” way of doing things.
In your situation, I am inspired to cross at a snails pace.
The Captain hopes OB wasn’t crossing North Street, in which case there most assuredly ISN’T a crosswalk there. You see, that’s not technically an intersection because the North St. traffic does not have to stop or yield to anyone until it reaches the stoplight on Windsor St. or THE MARKED CROSSWALK 100ft in the other direction. You can cross Gladstone, as there are stop signs on either side, but not North St.
You, OB, were Jaywalking… and doing a piss-poor job of it as well.
You should take some sort of Jaywalking course, if one is offered in your area.
I love the Captain, but it most definitly is an intersection.
Intersection- a place where two or more roads meet or cross.
Look Nukka… The Captain is just trying to up the registration numbers in his jaywalking courses. Time’s are tight for everyone, and even The Captain needs to put bread on the table
But there really isn’t a marked crosswalk there, no signs either, although there are the two I mentioned crossing Gladstone st. That’s my ol’ hood – and I think you’d have to be pretty self-entitled to expect an easy stroll across North St, especially in that location.
Plug in your Ipod, keep your head down and don’t bother looking or even trying to blend in with the traffic when crossing the street. Yeah, its you have right of way over the cars filled with people who are trying to get to work etc.
You may however end up spread across the pavement and you will probably think it is totally the driver’s fault but, that won’t change the fact that you will either be in pain or killed.
Wake up, be aware of what’s going on around you. If pedestrians can day dream, text and walk, be temporarily stupid; don’t you think that some drivers might have an off-moment and may not be able to slam on their brakes?
I think accidents are rarely caused by one person’s fault. Try and accept the fact that you have to be aware, forgiving and responsible as well.
I overlooked the specific street when I first read it. Thats my ol’ hood as well, represented Deacon St all those years ago. I completely agree with your reasoning of the area though, especially because of the proximity of a marked crosswalk. However, the OB is correct and may as you said, suffer from a minor dose of perverted self entitlement. Its just not a good spot to cross no matter who is the right.
Also Captain; The Kijiji ad for your Jay walking class will be completed and posted by noon whenever you give the command.
*harridan* cool word, that’s all i got
Pretty soon you’ll need a special licence to cross the street…crosswalk or jaywalking.
*waiting to sign up to the Captain’s class*
Kylde, pretty soon The Captain will be the one issuing those Jaywalking licenses – Now that Nukka has returned to active duty…
Nukka… post away, sir! You have the helm.
Let us see how many of Halifax’s finest we can entice with this one!

Its posted and we HAVE to provide the transportation, lol.
Well done, Nukka!
Arranging transportation will be difficult, The Captain’s vessel only supports a crew of 2.
Same as mine Captain…2 plus bring a helmet
Transportation? If anybody responds I’ll send them MM’s info and let him worry about it.
Easy on with bashing us old fuckers, she was probably too pre-occupied counting the large amount of company pension she received, something a mighty lot of ye young ‘uns will nae get to enjoy because you mostly work for rapacious fucks who can’t squeeze out a shekel.
As for a re-testing, personally, I’m all for it and would do it in a pacemaker beat, but as us crusty fucks are civic minded, or in need of an excuse to get out of the mortgage free house, and account for a substantial size of the folks who bother to vote, no politician with a scintilla of common sense is willing to risk our wrath at X marks the spot time.
Perhaps the old biddy thought you were one of those swarming fucks that frequent the North end, and she’s colour blind and mistook your tan for the Afro Centric look?
In MY case:
If I’m walking, I have the right-of-way.
If I’m biking, I have the right-of-way.
If I’m driving, I have the right-of-way.
Once everyone realizes this, we’ll all get along better!
Flip the ragged quiff off and keep walking.
As a driver and pedestrian, I’m totally on your side.
Be safe.
If you read your drivers handbook it states that drivers must yield to pedestrians at unmarked crosswalks, but also states that pedestrians must yield to vehicular traffic.
Can’t we all just yield along?
