To the asshole who threw snowballs at the lone girl walking home on Argyle on Friday night: FUCK YOU. Thanks for physically hitting me, glad it entertained you. But you see, to me it was not funny, it was just another sick and unwelcome episode of harassment which I encounter on a near weekly basis in this city. If I was one of those women walking with you, I’d be ashamed to know you. —Are You Fucking Serious?

Perhaps the group were enjoying the snowfall and throwing snowballs at each other. You may have been mistaken to be part of this group when you passed in close vicinity. Not everything is harassment and you are not always a target. But, you seem to play the victim on a near weekly basis.
Sadly not all adults are truly grown ups.
I bet OB’s reaction was priceless.
Human garbage.
And how is this OB “playing the victim”? A stranger threw snowballS (plural) at a person walking alone at night. And laughed. That sucks, and was probably scary. And if one were to involve the cops, is technically “worse” than harassment, it’s assault. (Spitting on someone is assault, so it stands to reason that hitting someone with snowballs is too. Have you ever been hit in the face with a snowball? It fuckin hurts.)
Not that the point of throwing snowballs at a stranger is to hurt them. The point is to make them feel scared. To make sure that the target knows that the snowball-thrower can do whatever they want, and the target can’t do anything to stop it. It’s a dick-measuring contest that the harasser is confident he’ll win.
I don’t know why anyone would theorize that this was probably a mistake. I get yelled at on the street by strangers ALL THE TIME, especially at night. If it seems more likely to you that it was an honest mistake rather than a case of a woman having snowballs thrown at her on the street at night by a stranger, then I really don’t know what else to say to you. Open your eyes? Seriously, this is the reality of many people’s lives.
As someone who threw snowballs at his sisters as a kid, I can tell you it has nothing to do with making the “victim” feel weak or powerless, and it’s not a “dick-measuring contest”. It’s all about getting a hilarious over-reaction to something benign, and being far enough away that you can escape being clawed to death should it maker her that angry. If the snowball thrower(s) were reading this thread, I bet they’d be laughing their assess off just like I am.
