With the science surrounding the use of lead bullets and hunting, why the fuck are we still allowed to buy and use them in our province/country? When hunters kill an animal, they leave the carcass for the wildlife to devour, leaving shreds of the lead bullet for the animals to consume, leaving eagles and other small creatures to die a slow, painful death from lead poisoning.
We can stop this, it’s too fucking easy. We have a responsibility to protect that which cannot protect itself, period, end of story. What are we waiting for? Do we make lead bullets in N.S.? Does our economy somehow rely on the sale of lead bullets? What is the fucking problem here? The house is in session, laws are being made, what’s the problem? We pay our politicians well because they have to make the tough decisions, right? Then why after decades of knowing this are we still waiting for decision to be made?
As far as I’m concerned, we should have an amnesty period where the government buys back lead bullets at a ratio of 2 for 1, and after that, if you are caught hunting with them, you lose your guns, your vehicle, your house, everything. Period!!! There is no excuse for this harmful practice, we know better and we have a responsibility to change our ways. —Poprah

Legit bitch. Steel shot is mandatory for migratory birds, wouldn’t mind seeing everything else go lead free but thats gonna be tough. Instead of a buyback, though, how about just hitting up some targets and blow through that shit/shot.

carcass?? umm …no. that’s what you take home.
unless the way you hunt is to cut the tongue out.
the entrails are left. as for you idea of a 1 for 2 box of shells lol
i’m sure any place the sells ammunition would love it as every gun owner would be going out and buying the last bit of lead and essentially get paid for turning them in.
Aws, Pop’s beat me to it. The ammo for my various rifles all seem to have trace amounts of lead in their tips. I’m slowly getting away from it, as the smallest amount in either the meat I cook or the guts I leave behind are not needed by anyone or anything.
@ furiest, who said anything about me hunting with lead?? you tic turd.
all i said is that people would be buying up all the lead shot to turn it into copper/steel shot.
what a slow ignorant arse you are.
Nobody said anything about you hunting with anything. It’s people like you who do nothing but find small, stupid problems with everything suggested, and nothing gets done. Nothing! We’ve known about this for decades, but nothing gets done because of “blah, blah, blah…” Let’s all just throw our hands up and gve up. Every suggestion about every topic has a down side, and some asshole that’s going to try to take advantage of everything if the think they can something for free. That isn’t a reason to do nothing, it’s an excuse. Who cares about the “what if?”, let’s worry about doing good for creatures that cant protect themselves, not worry about some scumbag that wants to take advantage of something. We just spent 26 million on a fucking boat, FFS, I’m sure we can find a million or two to do something that actually matters. I seriously get so tired of the same bullshit, everyone with problems and no solutions. Fuck I hate people!!!!
@furiest i did’t say that it was good or bad i just said that a lot of guys would be buying the lead boxes to get 2 boxes back.
as far as people jumping, perhaps you had better get off that trampoline you’re on.
Smoke…a….Joint.
Forget it, wiggam, you obviously don’t get it. You focus on one tiny part that really has nothing to do with banning lead bullets. I put like 10 mins into the bitch and fired it off, I really didn’t do much research into the distribution of bullets, just the fact that there might need to some incentive to get dumb, thoughtless rednecks to trade their bullets in. So I guess a limit of a box or two is just impossible, so fuck it. I guess just a simple ban will do, right?Nope, I won’t even bother to wait for someone’s “but I spent all this money on lead bullets, and nobody’s gonna take’m away or limit my use of them cuz they’re mine” response. It’s not about me, or you, or anyone except for the creatures that suffer from human stupidity we have the ability to stop today.
What’s your answer? Throwing lit cigarette butts in long, dry grass?
Yeah, thought so!!
Loose your house/vehicle? Although I don’t agree with lead bullets – thank god you’re not making the rules OB.
I’ve been able to stay away from lead bullets. My trick is not shooting animals. And if I did feel the need to hunt, i wouldn’t leave the carcass. Why are you leaving carcasses?
Poprah, we already when through this process with lead shot in shotgun shells and it was a big cluster fuck.
A – over 60% of the hunters switch before any law required them to do so.
B – the studies showing that lead was a concern were pretty weak, yet hunters wanted to switch and politicians finally complied to the sporting community
C – Stores refused to purchase and sell steel shot until all lead shot inventory was sold. For some, this created problems because the lead inventory went dormant when large numbers of hunters voluntarily switched to steel.
D – The ballistics changed when steel was introduce. It is lighter weight, faster, and does not deform the same as lead. This led to inferior ammo and backlog in product research.
E – inferior ammo resulted in a higher rate of crippled game birds. At close range, the steel was traveling right through the ducks and geese. Steel was delivering more cutting trama and less shock trama compared to lead.
F – And at far distances, where the energy in the shot was lower, the ammo was often crippling and yet not fatal.
Anyway, most hunters favored the switch away from lead and will do so once more. Lets hope that this time, the uninformed anti-hunting element to the anti-lead lobby chooses to be more supportive of a well thought out transition.
btw, where do you get the idea that there are tons of dead carcasses with lead in them?
When I shoot a large animal like a moose or deer, I gut it, then the entire animal will go to my garage to be hung and aged. You will not find any of the deer tissue in the forest other than the entralls. Not even the hide is left in the forest, because I like to take the animal back to my campsite where I can hang it to process it before taking it home. I’m not in the business of tanning hides so I donate mine to a friend that is into taxedermy. Most others I know just render the hide.
I have the feeling that your premise is not based on a real study, with real data, with a real problem.
I am not a hunter, but I can only imagine the odd shot is not lethal instantly and it gets away? Or are you batting 1.00?
Btw, why are you leaving the entrails? Offal is the best parts!
As for people buying up the last few bullets, of course. But this will be a small expense – it is a cost, btw. Since when has any iniative not had at least 1 cost? And I imagine most if not all would have eventually bought 2 boxes of ammo eventually… well except the guys at 100% kill ratio. So not like you can reallly say it has any increase of ammo circulating over the long run. I dont see too many non hunters shelling out cash just to have 2 boxes of ammo sitting around their house.
Lastly, OP it was a great bitch until the ridiculous hyperbole at the end.
Best parts? WRT deer, I leave behind the windpipe, cock and balls, bladder, lungs, stomach, intestines, and kidneys. You’re welcome to it.
Hmm, come to think of it, my pups would probably enjoy the kidneys and lungs. Thanks!
Yes, clearly you are not a hunter.you are just an entrails eater. I will call you the next time I get a whitetail.
