To the local radio station using the Hell’s Angels’ reputation to promote their summertime promotional event coordinator – shame on you! Shame, shame and more shame. The Hell’s Angels are being treated like rock stars when they are home grown terrorists and killers… get with the program! How many of our friends, relatives and (local) children need to die over drugs, guns and outdated gangster ideologies before we start to look at what kinds of images, ideas and lifestyles our media is glamorizing, promoting and feeding us in the name of profit? Take the high road and try endorsing positivity in a city already filled with violence.—DN

  1. imho, one of the reasons we have so much violence in HRM is that the hells angels arnt here to kick ass and keep drug dealers in line.

The police are all but impotent these days with our lax laws and investigations taking a year to produce charges.

how many teen drug dealers would be out there if they knew the consequences of operating on hells angels turf.

some people have this idea that its possible to rid the streets of crime with enough police presence, but it wont. As long as there is a demand, there will be people willing to break the law to supply. Having an organized crime element in HRM would restore some stability to the drug scene and create balance. Organizations like the hells angels know that violence and gang wars are bad for business.

  2. 1%ers in other cities are not much of a deterrent to teen dealers. Can’t see that it’d make much difference here.

  3. The family of Daniel Desrocher might just disagree. That old organized crime bromide “We only kill each other” no longer applies, if it ever did.

  4. It’s a clever play on the radio station’s name OP, and I highly doubt this promotion will cause the Hell’s Angels to resurrect themselves here. If your panties are still knotted, then just don’t listen to it.

  5. Fairview was never safer when the HA had their clubhouse there – in the 80s, I worked next door to their Agricola St. clubhouse – again, no problem, the crime rate for that area went down considerably until they moved. As a matter of fact, during one snowstorm when my bosses were late opening up the shop, one of the HA guys invited me in for a coffee and was a real sweetheart. HA don’t deal with the masses – unless you’ve ripped them off – then I’d honestly think about leaving town with a jet pack.

  6. I don’t know KBA, having the Hell’s Angels here as a deterrent to the current drugs wars is akin to bringing in lions to deal with the perceived coyote problem.
I don’t know about this promotion, it must be HAL, a lot of the music associated with bikers or outlaws is rock so it does fit.

  7. I’d like to see some real numbers on the Hells Angels as a crime deterrent myth. Even if it does hold water, so fucking what if a few 100 houses in one area are ‘safe’ where every other area has to deal with the bullshit that accompanies organized crime.

  8. They blew somebody away right in front of my sister’s place when she lived on Windsor St. back in the 80s. I don’t recall them coming by after to hose off the sidewalk as a nice neighbourly gesture.

  9. The Hell’s Angels have also put an end to a great deal of violence caused by other “gangs” and have done a lot of charity work… not all are bad, get your facts straight.

  10. I heard them on the radio today…I thought they were saying “Hal’s angels”
which has nothing to do with a biker group.

  11. …and to get back to the bitch. when we moved her 18 years ago, i recall “the gang that couldn’t shouldn’t straight” didn’t exist. the angels seemed, from my perspective, to keep the peace

  12. I have nothing against the HA, but I tell you if we still had them today, our city would be safer.

  13. TTFN: a member of the HAs lived across the street from my very elderly grandparents when they were still alive and they kept and eye out for the elderly on that street (my dad used to chit chat with him when he’d come to visit and he mentioned it once). The HAs are known for some nasty shit, but even an HRM detective who’s worked in that division said they’re known for keeping an eye out for those in their hood and will often look out for the elderly and kids in their neighbourhoods.

  14. Not yet — screw up with my flight reservation. I’ll be there tomorrow! 😀

Thanks for asking, Ms. Bread Lady! 🙂

  15. We could have a wicked party Brendon! And think of all the tax revenue! We could build 8 stadiums.

  16. say hello to the boy if you see him^^poor kid he was leaving his summer job and got caught in the gaga/beiber horror show

  17. This is hilarious – folks getting sentimental about a crime organization whose members have been involved in murder (naturally), hard drugs, prostitution, extortion, etc. for decades.

All that money they spend on PR must be doing some good.

  18. My uncle was murdered by the HA back in ’89. Oops…they got the wrong guy and look who ended up dead at 32? I was there in the courtroom for the prelim (I think that’s what it was called, I was 18), and a few of his “friends” in Montreal claimed he was there with them at the time of his murder, so nothing came out of it. The PR must be working.

  19. listen up people, i knew just about every one of them, when they lived out here in fairtown. and let me just give you a bit of info. they never once, hit on an innocent person. if you were a rival, then you were in deep trouble. most folks just left them alone, except for te few idiots that got a bunch of lies and shit stories going. i used to hang with the 13th. tribe out of sprytown, remember them? they were friends of the h.a.,and never so much as had a hit going for each other, either. i still know and remain friends with some, from both groups. the tribe was absorbed by the angels, way back when, and since that time, the herd has been thinned completely out.
i would rather have them live near me, than some snot nosed little wannabe hood, who’s name can’t even be published.
say whatever bad shit you want to, about the angels, but people had a much better chance, of not getting killed in a drive by. they would walk right up to you, and shoot you, if they had to. they had a thing called,”BALLS”.

  20. ..don’t know any HA guys…did however know a satan’s choice member who happened to ne a neighbour..gentle giant known as fat frog..

  21. Yeah we’ll just forget all the murders committed by the HA and I just don’t mean against other OMC, I’m talking about innocent victims and LEO. Do we forget about they boy who was killed by a car bomb or the pison guard driving to work, or those who OD’d?

  22. I don’t know WTF anyone here is thinking saying their “a-okay!” with me! LMFAO Yes it may seem like we have more shootings now, but you just convieniantly forget about the ones back then when the HA was around.

I mean, let’s be reality here, the people getting shot now are the same people that would get shot with the HA around, their known criminals/dealers/pimps. I fail to see how you feel safer when the HA takes out the trash as opposed to the trash taking out the trash.

Someone please tell me of the last innocent victim of drug violence here in Halifax, please! There haven’t been too many “innocent” bystanders shot because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, in fact none that I am aware. If you think their going to magically stop the swarmings on the commons from little idiots then you are sadly mistaken, why would they care? As you all already mentioned, they only protect the area around their “hood”, so unless they set up shop on the commons so much for that idea!

and lets be clear they NEVER had an impact on violence in the black/low income communities because they were never hands on in those communities, preferring to recruit someone from the area to handle biz in that area for them, if anything crime went up. So there goes reining in the lil gangsta wannabes! I also love how everyone’s okay with the HA because of their PR, but scared/tired/frusterated with what you call wannabe “thugs” from low income areas, when they essentially do all the things you speak of (good and bad, minus large cash donations to charities as they usually just give money directly to those in need in the community) but are somehow a much worse evil.

GIVE ME A BREAK, you can’t have it both ways folks! You either like criminals or you don’t! Or your just a hypocritical ass!

OH and did I mention that their a RACIST organization? Pretty sure they don’t try to hide that fact…BUT HEY THEIR SOME GOOD OLE BOYS SO WHO CARES WOOOOOOOO sadly lmao

  23. Let me also say, I don’t have a problem with the HA, I quite like them! But that’s because I like criminals! I will not sit here and say something idiotic like I prefer this criminal over that criminal because thats splitting hairs. I’ve always known criminals, been friends with them, grow up with them and have seen the good and bad they do. Shit I may or may not have, even participated in some of their activities myself at one point in life. My point is, just because your not in the communities to see what the little “gangsta” wannabes do that is positive doesn’t mean they don’t do good, just like the HA, and the opposite is true as well, just because you see all the good the HA does, doesn’t mean they don’t do bad…

  24. CE & Tim have it right, you’ve all bought into their PR bullshit.

Would you have a Crack dealer living next door, armed robber, rapist, pimp, murder, child molester? They’re all that and more.

Oh yea (heavy sarcasm), great neighbours….until they see that you have something they want. I’m sure all those business owners just loved paying the 81’ers ‘protection’, and having them do ‘business’ in their establishments.

They are murdering bastards without compassion or conscience, NIMBY.

  25. Saying the HA criminal activities doesn’t affect you is like saying McDonalds doesn’t affect you in some way because you don’t eat at McDonalds or know any fat people.

  26. um, they aren’t all gone….they just don’t have an official chapter or clubhouse.
They do quite a bit of charity work as well…

I wasn’t around hali when they were here, though there certainly wouldn’t be the shankings we’re seeing in their neck of the woods.

  27. HA may be criminals but they are also police officers, lawyers, government workers, teachers, they are professional people with jobs and chances are you wouldn’t know them if you fell over them. Not every HA your typical looking biker.

Criminal may be a criminal just like a politition is a polition it is choosing the lesser between the evils.

  28. Legalize all dope and let the biggest organized crime group sell it (the Federal Government).
The Angles and the kids in Sprytown can find other ways to exploit people’s weakness’s.

  29. Sorry hardduke, no police or military members are ‘known’ members, pledges or hangarounds, unless there is something I don’t know about (undercover doesn’t count).

I know a guy (ex-military) who wanted to be a hangaround, he was invited to resign.

  30. I’m with space cowboy… who, coincidentally, had an amazing lunch, I would surmize.
That’s rapidly becoming my favorite place to eat lunch 195.

  31. Ok my bad your right no police officers….but you get what I am getting at. They have professions, and have jobs like everyone else.

  32. ooooh More just made a VERY valid point. Cops and firefighters accidentally kills and injure people as well as damage property. Anyone’s house here ever been raided? For no reason? Did they offer to clean up or pay for any damages? Didn’t think so.

    Here’s my take:

Many cops are criminals. Many cops are awesome well meaning people too, but I have INFINITELY more respect for someone who doesn’t make any bones about being who and what they are.

If you stand up and say “I’m a gang member, I make my living illegally and I will hurt and maybe kill someone if I have to.”

To me that’s better than being a fucking bullying POS hiding behind a badge, PRETENDING to be a productive member of society, while in reality you are no better than a common thug. At least gangsters are honest with us.

I don’t know much about the Hell’s to be honest, but gangs and OC org’s have been around forever and aren’t going anywhere and there is a lot of truth that they do keep the rest of the little small timers in line. People fear them more than the police and the judge. This is just a fact and I wish people who CLEARLY have never been in the streets a day in their life would stfu.

  33. Beezy Weezy, if you like criminals so much, I hear Somalia is nice this time of year. I don’t believe there are any laws there so you wouldn’t have to worry about which criminal to like the most.

  34. OMG so the HA participate in a Ride for Toys program, does that give them a pardon or free pass for all the damage they do to society?

BTW I’d like tto see the names of the doctors, engineers, and other professionals that are members. None of the boys here were.

  35. “When we do right, nobody remembers. When we do wrong, nobody forgets.”

Does anybody remember all the years that various Hells Angels chapters donated money and toys to Toys for Tots? They make a big event out of it and invite non-member bike riders to join in and ride with them after. The UK Angles supported Help for Heroes in 2009, and the LA chapter donated five grand to Jerry’s Kids.

Awwww what a bunch of softies!

…who also murder, riot, extort, try to assassinate Mick Jagger (gasp!), and only allow white men to join their club…

I’m not listing their involvement with prostitution and drugs because that shit should be legal anyway.

In conclusion, I’m not really coming down on either side here. I just find the whole bearded tattooed possible murderer biker gang member donating teddy bears to underprivileged children hilarious.

And although it in no way excuses the bad shit they do, you gotta admit their slogan has some truth to it, and at least they admit they’re terrible people.

  36. troodon4 – I’m not confused at all as to which criminals to like, that was never said or inferred in my post. Maybe you need a reading comprehension course? I was calling out the hypocrisy of people saying they hate little wannabe thugs, but like the HA because their good ole boys who donate to charity. Also the fact that people think the violence either group of criminals do is different, just because they feel comfortable with one group and not the other. I can’t make my point any clearer then that, so if you still don’t understand, well get off the crack!

  37. The difference is real gangsters don’t break laws just for the sake of breaking them, and don’t live the gangster life style just because they think it’s cool. There is much more order to larger gangs like the Angels.

“I was calling out the hypocrisy of people saying they hate little wannabe thugs, but like the HA because their good ole boys who donate to charity.”

I don’t think that was the point that people were trying to make Beezy. Fuck their charity work, they bring a little bit of law and order to “the streets” or “the game” or whatever you want to call it. They keep some of these little punks in check, sometimes a call to them is more productive and effective than a call to the police.

  38. TJ902 – I beg to differ on the first point, because I think there are people that are part of the HA that joined because they thought it was cool. To say otherwise, in my opinion, is a bit naive. Same goes for the crimes commited, as I am sure there are some hanger-ons that will never rise to full patch because of doing exactly this. I’m sure not everone, from full patches, down to affilitiates and hanger-ons, all joined out of a sense of nobility.

Is there more order? I would say so for sure, but not by big leaps and bounds. My point is everyone is lulled into a false sense of complaceny and thinks their the better alternative just because they have more structure. At the end of the day, if you dislike crime, criminals etc then you should really hold both sets in the same regard.

My point about them being good ole boys who donate to charity was meant to be sarcastic. And yes, I have hung around with both groups of people, and there were idiots in both as well as good people in both.

  39. Just an FYI, on my way to Halisux this morning, I had 89.9 playing.
    They are saying ” HAL’S ANGELS “
Not hells angels, I was in traffic & they used the slogan at least 4 times & it definately was “HAL’S…not Hells” .

  40. Plus the Hal’s Angels is more likely a play on Charlies Angels rather than Hells Angels because there are actual women who work for the radio station who are called “Hal’s Angels”… they give out prizes and shit.

  41. I thought “Hill’s Angels” was just the name of their New Zealand chapter. I guess I’ve been watching too much Flight of the Conchords lately.
