HAL is just as bad. Seriously, you are guaranteed to hear at least 3 Tom Cochrane AND 3 Def Leppard songs every day. WTF?
The unfortunate thing is that people like me who love rock music but can’t stand the repetition do not have any alternative stations. I guess the closest would be CKDU, but that’s usually just unwashed North-end indie moron Coast readers playing the same Exclaim! recommended songs all the time!
What we need is more radio stations. More radio stations = more competition = more variety. Unfortunately, our pseudo-city of Halifax doesn’t have enough open minded people, or enough money.

Gotta disagree…more radio stations = more crap. Toronto and Vancouver and other cities are just as guilty of filling the air with repetitive crap. If you manage to find a good station, just listen to it for a week and you will see the same boring repetitiveness, no matter what your favorite kind of music is. The only advantage to a biggercity is that you have more stations to try, but stay in one spot too long and you will be bored. Best thing is to start downloading and program your own music.

It’s the same everywhere. Radio is dead… thanks to media company consolidation. Radio is not about music, it’s about selling ads… and they way to sell the most ads is get the biggest audience and they do that by pandering to the lowest common denominator.
I totally agree with the bitch but as Miles puts it, it’s not just Halifax…!! Don’t blame the city, blame the corporations who mass produce the stations that all play the same crap, day in and day out, no matter where you live. We all like the classics but when overplayed, it feels like you’re just living in the past. It would be great to have a station that would play a good mix of classics, rocks (new and old), alternative etc…
Well, there are a few good stations in Toronto & Montreal, but they have a broadcasting radius of about 50 km. Generally, I used to find a couple decent djs on the college station, then listen to them when they were on… But yeah, big radio stations = shit.This is why the car cd players that play mp3s are golden. Or the newer ones with the mp3 player inputs. Then there are no commercials or bad djs.
