I hate you, plain and simple. I hate what you did to my lungs, although they’re getting better. I hate what you do to my wallet and my daughter’s milk money. I hate my stained fingers and constantly washing my hands. I hate smelling you and seeing what you’ve done to people. I love to go outside but hate the time I spend with you. I hate the commercials that promote stop smoking aids while reminding me of my cravings, I hate how counterproductive that is. I hate all those that quit only because I wish I was one of them. I hate that I’m typing this to pass another five minutes. I hate myself most of all for my weaknesses. —Almost Free

There is light at the end of that dark, long miserable tunnel. Stay the course, my friend. It’s worth it.
Champix was the answer for me. An then by not buying a pack a day, I got the equivalent of a $4000 a year raise!
Smoking makes you at least 15-20% more badass, and besides, chicks hate pink lungs.
You only have yourself to blame, unless someone put a gun to your head. I’m one of those evil smokers. I choose to smoke. No one force, coerced, enticed me, or anything else. It is me, just me. The same goes for gamblers, drinkers, drug users, eaters or anything else out there.
You’ve come a long way, baby!

I finally quit New Year’s Eve. I replaced one behavior with another. Instead of lighting up, I picked up a good book or pecked away at my computer instead. It was extremely difficult the first week but after a couple of weeks, I managed to control the hunger for a smoke. Plus I saw my bank account reflect what I was saving and that added incentive. The hardest part of quitting is the physical withdrawal and getting over that hump. But the most important thing is that you have to be ready to quit.
You can do it!!! I know 2 people who quit on January 1st and they feel better than ever! Hang in there OB!
Keep going. You’ll be amazed the first time you walk up a steep hill and your not gasping for air.
As an incentive, treat yourself(or someone you love) to something nice, with the money you would’ve spent on smokes.
Good for you. 🙂
I quit at the beginning of this year and ever since have had a chest cold. I can’t wait for when I can start to feel the lung benefits of my ongoing decision. Having quit smoking many times only to start again the hardest part is not with drawl but continuing not to smoke. Whenever you want to smoke, I have to practise not smoking instead…
I’m glad I never started, can’t be easy to quit. A couple of people I know tried and they were so mean and rotten afterwards their family told to start smoking again, so I guess it can get bad.
I’ve been quit for three years now!! It was hard as hell but I finally succeeded after 10 years and 5 failed attempts to quit. It is not easy but just take things one craving at a time and the longer you go, the easier it is to ignore the cravings. The cravings will get fewer and fewer too. I still get them once in a blue moon but after three years it is easy to ignore them and push on. Just think of all the money you will save!!

i quit finally after smoking for 27 years. took a few tries but eventually it happened. they say it is never too late to quit. op you really gave a great case for quitting. the cravings wii eventually end. i have been snoke free 4 around 15 plus years only by the grace of god. i am grateful.
Hang in there, OP! You can do it! I’ve been smoke free for almost a year; my first anniversary is Feb 29 and I am SO excited!! I loved my cigarettes for 17 years and couldnt imagine my life without them, but once I became a mother, something switched and it just didn’t feel the same anymore. Mostly awake from 10:15. Slept 30 min between then and 1:30 each cigarette I had scared me. so I stopped the day I found out I was pregnant again.
After previous unsuccessful attempts, I feel like I have finally found my pre-smoker self, which I haven’t seen since I was 16. My cravings are virtually non-existent, and when I feel stressed or excited, my mind no longer requires a cigarette to feel calm or happy. It feels SO incredible to be able to cope without smoking. I can’t wait to go have my teeth whitened on my 1st anniversary.
Keep going!!
Having quit over 3 years ago (after 31 years), I go to Europe each year; stay for 10 days in a luxury boutique hotel; shop until I can’t walk; and, party ’til the wee hours… (You stole your daughter’s milk money? Do you smoke crack?)
What the fuck!!? Sorry folks!! How did my notes get in there? This was my attempt to get a look at my newborn’s habits so I could evolve some sort of schedule! moderator, can you please delete my comment? I thought there was an edit option!
Agreed, Snubiz. Champix makes one feel as though they have never put a cigarette to their lips. Unfortunately, it can carry some unpleasant side effects, such as vivid, wild dreams and psychosis. I felt a little ‘off’ for the first couple of weeks… Emotionally ‘flat’ is the best way I can describe it. I rode it out and, eventually, my psyche returned to normal. The wild dreams stayed the course, though. They would have been amusing, if my alarm didn’t have to go off at 5am lol. All in all, if you can get through the first few weeks, it is SO effective! I hope you have success OB 🙂
And the nausea! Although if you drink a whole lot of water as it recommends, it’s OK. A small price to pay….
lucyfer i don’t get that whole week schedule you posted. not sure what it meant in this post.
lucyfer i just read your 2nd post. lol it happens!
I took a champex beating one night from my honey.
The mood swings, the hot flashes the tears …it was worth it & she says so as well.
You’ve got a few more years to go before your anniversary, Lucyfer.
PS I thought the notes you included were how you plan on celebrating your achievement
Omg Lucyfer I had a good ole laugh.
I thought it was the schedule Lucy followed after quitting smoking.
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Brother Timothy FTW!
oh lucyfer, they say a woman never forgets what that first movement inside feels like, well same for that unrelenting sleep deprivation. gad, i woulda sold them each to the gypsies for even 2 hours sleep. how could you even manage to write all that out? i salute ya with a dry diaper. an oopsie, but thankyou, brings back a lot of memories (somewhat hazy)
Lol, ZZZ; what a great way to celebrate! Let’s see how many poops and feeds I can squeeze in for the 24hr period! There won’t be any time to smoke!
And cripes, I forgot it was a leap year! Another 2 years until my first anniversary! Wait, so I guess that means I’m not yet almost 34 after all…..hmmm.
Damn, I am so tired!
You’re right Molly, those movements are incredible! It’s such a relief to have her safely in my arms, but I sometimes miss those kicks, even the kidney shots!
Thank you all for the support. Its day number 12 and I’m heavily addicted to the 4mg gum. Champix was pure evil, Zyban had worked years ago and the patch is just itchy. I love putting things in my mouth so the gum was an instant favorite. And Harper, you made me laugh. Now I just put extra effort into making sure my tattoo’s are visible.
An addict usually gives up one addiction for another.
I quit smoking years ago, but then got hooked on coffee.
IIRC either Champix or Zyban is just Wellbutrin under a different label.
