I don’t know whether this will even be posted, but I have to say that Liz Feltham may just be the worst restaurant reviewer I have ever read. If she gives a bad review, then I am more apt to try the place out. By what standards does she judge the restaurants? Exactly what qualifies her to decide what is good and what isn’t? Am I alone in my dislike and distrust of her? I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for six years now and think I am a pretty good judge of food quality, service and atmosphere. Liz Feltham; you’re reviews are a fucking joke. I hope you choke on your next meal, then there might be an article I could enjoy reading!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!! She’s horrible! I don’t know if you remember her rant about how cooks and chefs need to be making the same wage as plumbers, welders and electricians. She had the nerve to say that cooking was the most dangerous job or some shit like that. My brain almost exploded just trying to comprehend her fucked up “logic”
I’m still steamed about the rotten remarks she made of a particular Mexican restaurant that she claimed wasn’t real Mexican cuisine. Didn’t matter that the owner was Mexican, she had to shit on the best Mex food in Halifax. What a knob.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe that review about the Mexican restaurant. Thank god they printed responses to that review or I wouldn’t have known how f’d up that review was. After that I didn’t really take any of the reviews seriously….
People need to lay off the hate-trip for Liz. She gives a bad review, (honest) and people jump all over her? The job of a critic is to write about what they experience, and she’s done that. If Mongolie can actually learn how to take this critisism as constructive, maybe it’ll do them some good. I’m guessing the OP works there? I think Liz Feltham is good at what she does. Not every review is golden. Maybe it’s time to grow some bigger shoulders and get over it already.
I agree with poop but let’s also remember that Ms. Feltham also said KFC had the best fried chicken in HRM … YIKES … the dirty bird! I am really suprised at the backlash over the MG review. I find that it is very rare for Liz to flat out skewer a restaurant and almost always tries to say something positive. Food enjoyment is fairly subjective so I rarely trust the opinion of a total stranger. Given Ms. Felthams track record of liking almost every restaurant she reviews and questionable reccomendations I rarely put much value in her opinion, but do enjoy reading it.I’m curious, if The Coast had some qualified food critics, other than Ms. Feltham, submit reviews it could add a lot more credibility to the column just by having different points of view. Just a thought.
I actually worked with (different department) Liz for a couple of years. While reviewing for the Coast, she works in food supervision and on the cooking line. Could not produce a satisfactory grilled cheese (when she wasn’t stressed out…)once, the Coast rotated the duties and reviews had some teeth and you could go ahead and try based on some foreknowledge. now it’s mostly Liz and she loves almost everything….seems a bit “grey”.those that do, DO. those who can’t…..
I gotta agree with the original post. I’m a bit of a foodie – I cook a few different cuisines (but am admittedly untrained), and eat in many restaurants in many cities, and I think I have a pretty good sense of what’s well-conceived, well-prepared and well-seasoned or not.I gather Lizzie works in the food industry so should know what she’s talking about. But, wow, I’ve had some really crappy slop in restaurants she said were great, and some pretty good experiences in restaurants she didn’t like. ESPECIALLY with anything “ethnic” or “fine”, she really doesn’t seem to know what she’s talking about. She seems to like fine just because it’s fine and doesn’t even pay attention to the actual quality of the food, and she definitely doesn’t seem to know her spice.I think the Coast should try adding another critic for casual / fine dining, and keep her on the diners where she seems most comfortable and happy.
